We recently connected with Shirley Yvette Coppet and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shirley Yvette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As far back as.Elementary School, being introduce to crayons and paint. That opened up a whole new world for me. Growing up in a low income house hold full of love never knowing the struggles of not having because my hero was my mom, she always found a way to fund my creative mind. I remember always wanted to grow up and live that Bohemian life. After high school and working for a few years I ended up joining the military and put my painting on the back burner for twenty years, fast forward military retired, full time abstract artist.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well to start my name is Shirley Yvette Coppet, I am 63, married, 3 grown kids and 2 dogs. I use my middle name as my artist name because it sounds so much better to say and sigh my name to my art work. I have loved creating as far back as I can remember from the start of elementary school. Growing up I always envisioned my life style as Bohemia. At the age of 20 I joined the military, 20 years, 7 months and 26 days I gave the military my life. after the military I ventured off into real-estate for about eight years finding myself unfulfilled until on day a painted a picture for my number one daughter for her first condo, a light went off it felt good to get back into creating, it’s was like this is want I have been missing. Creating art that feeds the soul is one thing that I am most proud of, I tell my clients that I can make any abstract belong to any room in your home, you just have to see, see with a open mind, see with change.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Through my art, I hope to create a dialogue between the observer and the artwork, inviting them to engage in an exploration of beauty, identity, or societal themes. Each piece I create is a reflection of my personal growth and exploration, as well as an invitation for others to embark on similar journeys of self-discovery and introspection.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to continue to create art that feeds the soul and have my art to connect to that one person who gets it. art is not just about aesthetic; it is a powerful tool for evoking emotion and sparks conversations. I want you to take about that piece of art that you like, hate or just fell in love with because that makes me a better artist, it makes me step up my game. Art is what I love not what I do.

The image that’s on the oblong wall was painted by some Mural painters to replicate one of my paintings on a wall at Verizon. One of the best moments in my life as an artist.
