Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shirley Raines . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shirley , thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I lost my son of a very young age and I came down with panic attacks and anxiety disorder. After many years of suffering and having a very tumultuous life and a lot of tragedies, I was looking for a purpose for my pain in my 40s. I found a nonprofit and I started working with them but the homeless were more interested in my hair and my make up so I started doing hair and make up for the homeless. I eventually moved to Skid Row and started serving 500 people every single week doing hair make up food hygiene…we give tents, sleeping bags, blankets, anything that people need to survive on the street.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Beauty2thestreetz is a nonprofit organization that started in 2017. We service the homeless community of Skid Row, Las Vegas, San Diego and San Francisco and Long Beach. We provide choices dignity respect along with hair care make up food, hygiene, sleeping bags, tents blankets. Anything that the homeless need to make their spirits a little more comfortable as what we provide. we are fully funded by our social media audience, tick-tock Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
How did you build your audience on social media?
When I started serving the homeless community of Los Angeles I realized that I needed funding so I took to social media to share my constant. I took a lot of abuse and criticism for Filming , but I also knew that it was important for my transparency to show where the funding was going. Shortly after that, I was sharing on the shade room, and my social media audience begin to grow. It does take some time to gain the trust of social media, but I try to do that by being completely transparent, since we are fully funded by them
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Transparency I try to make sure that everything we do all the funding that we have that we share where that’s going with our social media audience
