We recently connected with Shir Eyal and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shir, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I started dancing at the age of three. In high school, I majored in dance, and afterward, I continued my training at “the Jerusalem Dance and Music Academy” as a dancer and dance teacher. At the same time, I was exposed to the world of fitness and aerobic dance through my work as a group instructor. I have instructed various classes and hundreds of women for over a decade.
After more than ten years of fitness and aerobics instruction, I suffered from an acute injury, primarily due to the workload and improper use of my body. I was devastated by the injury. I realized that dance and dance instruction were significant parts of my life and that my body was my most valuable working tool. As part of my recovery process, I began exploring the body, its structure and anatomy, and its movement capabilities. This journey of self-discovery led to a defining moment in my career when I developed a new body language intended to strengthen and shape the body while improving and stabilizing it by focusing on core muscles, reducing joint pressures, using proper breathing techniques, and promoting smooth movement. It was then that I decided to start my own business and pave my independent way.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Shir Eyal, a dancer, choreographer, body-mind mentor, sound healer, and energy flow facilitator based in the vibrant community of San Diego. Originally from Israel, my journey into the world of movement began at the age of three, igniting a passion that has fueled my life’s work ever since.
After earning my dance degree from the prestigious Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where I honed my skills as part of the academy dance ensemble and collaborated with esteemed choreographers, I embarked on a path of self-discovery and holistic healing. Alongside my dance studies, I delved into the world of fitness instruction before transitioning into a more holistic therapy path, blending my diverse experiences into a unique approach to wellness.
For over a decade, I’ve dedicated myself to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, utilizing my keen observation skills to understand human structures, postures, and movement patterns. Through this journey, I’ve cultivated a unique body language that merges my dance expertise with holistic healing practices. As a body-mind mentor, sound healer, and energy flow facilitator, I craft personalized plans to guide students on a journey of releasing tension, recovering from injuries, and reconnecting with their bodies, emotions, and minds through movement, sound healing, and energy flow techniques.
I wholeheartedly believe in the power of combining diverse methods of body movement, including dance, Pilates, yoga, music, and sound therapy, to foster holistic well-being. My passion for diversity in sessions extends to one-on-one sessions and group classes. Beyond traditional settings, I thrive on facilitating private events like birthday parties, workshops, and family gatherings, where I can share the transformative power of movement and sound.
Collaboration lies at the heart of my approach, and I relish the opportunity to explore new avenues with others. Currently, I’m particularly excited about delving into sound healing for babies, envisioning it as a unique and meaningful addition to my practice, further enriching the lives of those I have the privilege to serve.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’ve built up my reputation in my field by putting in consistent effort over time. With patience and perseverance, I’ve grown my client base, connecting with people who like what I do. Every new client gets the real me – my skills and my beliefs all mixed in. Being genuine like this builds trust, making it easier for them to trust my methods.
Also, I’m big on being honest and flexible. That helps me build strong relationships with my clients. I’m always open to their ideas and needs, which helps me tailor my services just right. And when they succeed, it boosts my reputation even more. They spread the word about my work, which helped me grow even more in my field. My aim? Keep those connections strong and keep delivering excellent service.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Certainly! One story that highlights my resilience is from the early years of my journey. I faced several challenges as I built up my reputation in my field. Firstly, English isn’t my native language, so I had to put in extra effort to polish my language skills. Additionally, I had to immerse myself in a new culture, adapting to differences from my home country of Israel. I reshaped my methods until they worked effectively in my new surroundings.
Moreover, in the initial stages, I had to drive a lot and invest from my savings before my business became firm and sustainable. Despite these obstacles, I remained persistent, putting in consistent effort over time. I gradually grew my client base with patience and perseverance, connecting with people who appreciated my work. This journey showcases my resilience in overcoming challenges and pursuing my passion despite adversity.
