We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shila Lopez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shila below.
Shila, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
A risk I have taken which to me was big, was quitting my 9 to 5 on Juneteeth to pursue my business full time. I had been fighting depression and heavy anxiety everything I got in my car and started my commute to work. The closer I got to the parking lot the worst my anxiety would get. I slowly but surely started to clean out my desk. I kept thinking about all the opportunities missed due to my being at work. Every time I had to say no I have to work just replayed in my head. I needed t make a decision!
Fast Forward to the morning I wake up and say F-it. I’m going to take that leap. Plus, I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to show children and their parents how to regrow veggies that may be going bad. So instead of taking that depressive drive, I made a detour to the park and set up my station,
This taught me to trust myself and believe wholeheartedly in what I do. Put all the time and effort into giving to make someone else millions why not bet on me? So I did. Everything was going well until Covid made its debut and yet again I would have to learn how to pivot in times of uncertainty. Today we have a beautiful location where we host an array of events like sound healing baths and meditation sessions. I also host one free gathering for women a month mainly outdoors near rivers and nature to promote grounding and mental clarity.
We are currently doing a fundraiser to secure this location so we can continue to provide our holistic services and products.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Shila Lopez Founder of Indiglow Holistics where the earth is your healing.
I got into this industry after suffering a terrible car accident. I had been rear-ended at a red light by someone who had been texting on their phone causing me to undergo almost 8 months of physical therapy. During this time is when I would be introduced to massage therapy. Let me tell you when that wonderful lady placed her hands on me my life had been changed forever. By the end of the massage, I had asked so many questions like how did you do that and how can I learn lol. Within 30 days I had signed up for Massage School in Pompano Beach Fl. I loved learning about the body and how healing comes in many forms that aren’t pills! There was so much more to the human body than its physical form and how it all tied in together. This was back in 2009 When I graduated from Everest University in advanced massage.
I grew up in a Dominican household so a lot of things I would learn in massage school would bring me back to my childhood and I would have a full understanding of why my mother did certain things the way she did. I always thought I would be a lawyer haha. Today I am certified in Stretch Therapy, Womb Wellness, Shamanic Reiki, and crystal healing to name a few. Everything I have put my energy into learning teaches me a different aspect of the human body we often overlook or as I like to say underlook. Throughout my 13 to 14 years of being in the wellness industry, I have learned the power of plants herbs, and flowers which bring us to the wonderful products curated at Indiglow Holistics. Our Solang is Earth is Our healing and we mean it. Every product from soap, body oils, yoni, or vaginal care products is made with all earthly products that cause harm to none! You can find our products in a couple of local stores here in Baltimore City.
Healing or wellness is not only a physical aspect it all really starts in the mind and then trickles down to the heart center. I teach my clients that it’s okay not to be ok and that giving themselves grace is a move in the right direction. People don’t realize that a lot of the pain or discomfort they deal with can stem from emotional entrapment. Emotions that were pushed to the side and not addressed now manifest themselves in the physical form. Ex. Back pain is the most common issue that comes through my doors and lies on my table. The emotion associated with the back would be a lack of community, always feeling like you are at the forefront all the time and no one has YOUR BACK. See, it may not be that you lifted something incorrectly, just that you need to take a break and or ask for help. These are all things I have had to learn and apply to m life as well. Some days are easier than others but the point is to see the bigger picture that you control.
This is why at the women’s gathers that I host we focus on loving ourselves without guilt without shame in a safe space with other women who are looking for the same, We have created a safe space for men and women where you not only can learn how to better care for yourself but it is accessible for everyone in the community. We have helped countless people improve ROM (range of motion) Women dealing with fibroids and cysts not having to undergo operations and also help women learn how to love themselves again. Things are some of the things I am also proud of, something that is greater them me making an impact on someone’s life is an amazing feeling. Sometimes surreal.
So know that if you ever visit Indiglow Holistics you are in good safe hands. You will get the proper attention in order to determine the proper regime to ensure a wonderful and intentional session.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes!! I would probably learn everything I know now sooner as well!!!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Word of mouth and vending at local events where everyone gets the opportunity to see my work live!!! It’s also a chance for them to get to know me and ask me questions if there unsure of what they may need. I am a people person, for the most part, lol and I Love sharing the benefits of all I do. My most recent regular found me 5 years after I laid hands on her and she still remembered me! Not to toot my own horn hehe toot toot
