When thinking of spray tans, most think it’s just to look “ tan or darker “ when really the most beautiful spray tans can go “ unnoticed “. Amongst thousands of clients I have the pleasure to work with, I have been able to put smiles on their faces lit up by pure self confidence and self happiness! A time that is always on my mind that I was able to help a client of mine achieve fantastic results to help solve an “problem” of theirs, is when I had a bride come to me with vitiligo. Vitiligo occurs when pigment-producing cells die or stop functioning, it is known as a disease that causes the loss of skin color in blotches. This bride had a beautiful wedding dress ready to wear and her arms / underarms had vitiligo that she had hopes of concealing. As being a master in spray tanning, I knew exactly what I was going to do and I was so excited to make her feel so confident and comfortable in her skin. I used a mini airbrush tool and “filled in” these small areas that we needed to gain color in. This took time, patience and blending to create a smooth result. Then we went in with the actual spray tan to provide an overall balanced and toned appearance. The bride looked into the mirror with a pleasant shock overjoyed with happiness… this brought tears to my eyes! It was everything she wanted and more, that moment fulfilled me so much just knowing she will be confident on her wedding day in her dream dress!
Since then, I have worked with many clients who have vitiligo and have been able to see so many transformations for this purpose! I have clients who are regulars and in the medical field that choose to spray tan with me just for the purpose to conceal their vitiligo and provide them an even toned skin appearance! Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Shiane Trevors, I am the Owner and 3X Master Certified Spray Tan Artist of Inner Glow Airbrush Tanning. I operate out of sunny South Florida offering luxury mobile service across Palm Beach County and beyond!
When first starting this business, it was 2019. As we all know 2019 was during the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on small businesses worldwide. Many small businesses suffered due to lockdowns and reduced consumer spending, leading to closures, job losses, and financial difficulties. Some small businesses were forced to pivot their operations or shift online to survive the pandemic. During this time I was working at a spa + salon as well as a server at a restaurant. I wanted more for myself and knew that I wanted to work with women, I was on a journey of empowering myself and finding my passion! I began looking into the possibilities of working in the beauty industry, never to think I’d be running an entire business now! I love the feeling of being tan but in my family I’ve seen a fair share of compromised skin, skin cancer, skin removal and other issues that were effected by the suns powerful uv rays.
Sunless tanning caught my attention and I honestly ran with it! I first started in the bathroom ( YIKES ) of the salon I was working in. We all gotta start somewhere right ?! Lol. Well I was practicing on friends and the ladies I worked with at that salon and spa just to dip my toes in and get a feel for the art of spray tanning. Turns out I was a natural, I really loved everything about it from the start! I began looking into programs and certifications to become more knowledgeable and a professional in spray tanning, that was one of the greatest choices I ever made! I was learning online as well as learning hands on during a full training course, I was working with a trainer, models, a variety of equipment, body types, and styles of spray tanning.
Once I received my first certification, of course I was still nervous to actually begin the business to start charging clients and get all the wheels spinning, but once I practiced a bit more- I knew I was ready!
But like I said , we were in the start of a long haul of the COVID-19 pandemic…
The salon & spa as well as the restaurant I was working in all were shutting down.
I didn’t realize this was one of my greater blessings in disguise. But how ?!
This was only the beginning stage and I had a small clientele- those clients started requesting me to come over their house to spray tan them! I began traveling from house to house with my equipment providing them a luxury experience in the comfort of their own home. In this moment I realized something; even though no restaurants, stores, beaches etc are open to show off their spray tan- they did it for themselves. They wanted my service to FEEL GOOD, in a time in the world that most felt helpless and bad. My entire goal is to make people feel good, feel more confident and comfortable in their own bodies, and I was doing it! This was one of my personal goals before it was a professional goal, which is one of the reasons I feel that my energy with the service offered makes such a huge impact on my clients and myself. It is now 2023, I am now 3X Master Certified in the art of spray tanning / contour spray tanning. We have our beautiful website completed. I specialize in the bridal industry, this sets me apart in my industry because bridal tans are extremely detailed and conservative. I have become the bridal expert in my local area, working alongside the top of the line wedding venues, makeup and hair artist, and photographers. These industry professionals have also become some of my greatest friends!
Recently I began offering body competition tans and have had the amazing opportunity to be the spray tan vendor for three incredible competitive body building shows in Florida.
I have also sprayed beautiful women for the Miami Swim Week shows that take place each year in South Florida.
I have recently launched my first professional line of products! This was a huge accomplishment and step of growth for my company! We now carry our very own Facial Tanning Mist and Golden Goddess Shimmering Body Oil! We have recently opened an online store so you may purchase our products that we carry and ship them directly to you! I really appreciate anyone who has ever supported my business, I truly believe that the clients I have shaped and helped build this business to what it is today and I am so excited for what is to come!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

The most effective strategy that I have grown my amazing clientele is though social media and referrals! Referrals have always been most important and effective for me because my clients are a walking advertisement, they are socializing with a beautiful spray tan at home, work, grocery store, bridal parties, you name it. Referrals can help to establish credibility and reputation by providing social proof that other customers have had positive experiences with the business. Referrals can lead to higher conversion rates because potential customers are more likely to trust and buy from a business that has been recommended by someone they know and trust. Referrals can help to build stronger relationships with customers by fostering a sense of trust and loyalty between the business and the customer who referred them. I love when my clients book a session with their friends or bridal party, it is so much fun and everyone feels great! My clients are proud to share that I’ve offered them a healthy youthful glow and share my information, I am forever great full and fortunate for that! Social media can be highly effective for growing a business in many ways!
Social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok our website allow us to reach a wider audience and increase brand awareness by sharing content, and engaging with followers. This provides a direct line of communication between myself and customers, enabling them to engage and build a relationship with customers. Social media can drive traffic to a business’s website by sharing links to posts, products, and services. Social media advertising can be highly targeted and cost-effective, allowing us to reach our ideal customers!

I have always maintained a, “do whatever it takes” mentality from the very beginning. There was no way in hell that I was going to let where I was or what was happening around me ever stop me from getting to where I wanted to be. But, what makes the beginning of anything hard is that you have to believe in something that hasn’t been created yet. You have to believe in your ability to make something out of nothing.
With that comes a lot of challenges, personal development and learning curves. Now sitting here reflecting and almost 4 years later in one month, I am proud that I never have given up and even more so proud of who the person and business that I have created and grown today!
