We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sheyel Rorie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sheyel below.
Sheyel, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I was always a writer without knowing I was a writer. I published my first book in 2013, after my husband passed. Ever since then, I’ve been drawn to people who want to publish their books. Their stories were always about someone who passed, so I decided to open and hold space for people who needed to heal through writing. I have worked with many coaches and business persons who want planners and journals for their businesses, but the most meaningful work is with those who, through storytelling, can work through their grief. I desire to work with Widows, teaching them how to earn extra income by sharing and writing their stories. Connecting with these women and working with them and others who have suffered loss helps to heal my own grieving.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My Brand is Virtual Way Professional Services/Virtual Way Publishing. I am a publishing consultant, book coach and a widow coach. I started this journey after my husband passed. I wanted to help other widows heal by writing. I became a virtual assistant to many businesses in several states and have helped to create new authors and published over 50 books
I have helped authors navigate the publishing process by simplifying the process and guiding them step by step from the manuscript preparation to the book launch. I provide strategies for writer’s block so the author can continue with their flow. I also help authors with marketing and audience building. Once the book is published, getting it into the reader’s hands can be a major hurdle. So, I help them with marketing strategies, from building an author platform on social media to helping them reach their target audience and achieve sales. You support and inspire authors, boosting their confidence in their writing and publishing abilities and motivating them to achieve their goals. Lastly, I provide legal and copyright guidance.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As I mentioned before, my journey started when my husband passed. I went through a lot of emotional stress to the point I wanted to give up. I broke my ankle a month after he died, and I felt like I hit rock bottom emotionally. I took that time to really connect with God and became very determined to walk and to rise up again. I started a blog at first, but the platform I was on shut down, so I turned my blog information into a book, “5 Ways to Become Whole Again After Loss”. I didn’t want other widows or people who suffered the loss of a loved one to feel the way I did. I thought this book would encourage them. From that point on, I started meeting and working with people who wanted to write and publish their own books.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to complete the development of my program that will promote transformative storytelling. I want to show Widows that they matter, their story matters and by writing their stories, they can increase their incomes and find purpose.
