Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sheryl Grace Malaguit. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sheryl Grace, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Throughout my career, I have always had a passion for working with kids and I have been told that I am great with kids and all their various personalities. Being a piercer and growing a business has really allowed me to find my true passion in both my creative element as well as building amazing networks in my community. With rising awareness to the less than ideal practices of piercing guns, many parents are reluctant to take their children to tattoo shops that come off as intimidating, although they provide the higher standard for piercing practices. I saw this as the opportunity to offer something unique in my community that offered not only the safest piercing practices but also a comfortable and welcoming experience especially for young children who would like to get their ears pierced– the right way! I have served various families who have given me the honorable trust in their child’s care and they have also recommended me near and far to other parents looking for a memorable experience for their child’s first ear piercing. My studio was designed in mind to provide a relaxing and bright environment to calm nerves of anxious clients both children and adults. I love what my business has been able to offer for so many people and the positive feedback they bring. I hope to inspire those growing a business to continue to foster their passions because it can lead you to greater heights you’d never imagine.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My fiance opened a tattoo shop in 2021 and offered to have me design and work as the lead piercer for the piercing room in his business which I graciously took on with an open mind. During that time, I worked in the dental field as a full-time registered dental assistant, I had a passion for dentistry and the creative aspect of working with my hands and being able to help serve my community in impactful ways. As I worked as a piercer at the shop, I began to realize how similar the practices of my dental career coincided with the piercing industry. Body piercing requires the highest standards of infection control and proper sterilization protocols which I implemented from my dental workplace. This gave me solid background and training of appropriate safety and hazard work awareness. I diligently continued to educate myself to offer the highest quality jewelry and education on piercing aftercare. I take pride in my dedicated service to my clients in making sure they know I am alongside their healing journey every step of the way. As i grew the piercing studio over the years, my passion for piercing continued to flourish and I opened my own independent studio years later. This took years of hard work balancing both a business while working a full-time job. Im forever grateful for the trust of all my amazing clients who continue to support me to this day. I also have endless gratitude to my amazing partner who laid the foundation of my business to become what it has today.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Establishing your social media presence can be so overwhelming. I have had my fair share of stress and overthinking when it comes to posting on my platform especially regarding a business. During COVID, I was unemployed at the time and started a small hobby in making clay earrings. I decided to sell the earrings and really relied on social media to market my work and draw an audience. My earrings became a big hit at the time that I was able to accumulate a decent amount of organic followers all from consistent content creation of different jewelry designs. Fast forward to my piercing venture, instead of making a new account I decided to transition my old jewelry account to me new piercing business account which really helps start up my piercing business since I already had a solid following. My tip for the creators out there is to keep creating and although its a slow process of establishing your portfolio, you just have to start somewhere and it will ultimately lead you to bigger places where you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective strategy is building rapport with each one of my clients. In most service industries you are constantly interacting with people and different backgrounds of life. I believe it is so crucial to really connect with your clients and especially in my career, trust is so vital in the introduction process. I want people to walk out of my studio feeling like they became a friend of mine and not just a client. I also try to build rapport where they know they can come to me with any concerns regarding their service. Establishing connections with your clients allow for a positive experience they can remember and share with others due to the impact you made on them.
