Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sherry Snipes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sherry, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve always been creative, so when my children were young, they would give me the theme and the rest was history. I would take that idea and run with it. Since then, I’ve attended several balloon conferences as well as Big Balloon Builds from Orlando, Florida, St. Louis, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Penn, By attending these events have truly been essential to my growth and confidence in creating and growing.
At these event I have learned so many techniques that have allowed me to create some really unique structures.
I don’t think I would change anything about my balloon journey because I have enjoyed every second of it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a wife and mother of 3. I’ve been a stay at home for 19 years and now been a small business owner for the last 8 years. When my youngest daughter was turning 11, I had the brilliant idea of adding balloon decor to her birthday celebration. Looking back at those balloons, they were so cheesy.😩 Since then, my balloon skills have been able to transform thousands of spaces and been apart of so many people’s memoirs. I’ve been able to bring their visions to life through the artistry of balloon decor. I take great pride in the way of making my clients feel like they are the most importantly person in my world and they treat me like I’m their best friend. The hug me, give me gifts, ask me about my family at the 2nd, 5th and even the 10th jobs.
I’m really proud and in awe of how God changed my mindset. You see, there was a time in my life where I didn’t mind clicking in and out. I remember thinking that having your own business was way too much work.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Pivoting is nothing new for me. During my adult life, I’ve had to pivot and shift several times. I’ve been a medical assistant for almost 20 years before becoming a stay at home mom where I was the queen of pivot. Any mother will tell you how you become the master pivoter (I know that’s not a real word). You’re constantly juggling multiple things all at the same time. Once I became a small business owner it came natural to me to pivot in those Cristal moments when things aren’t working out as planned. My girls are even master pivoters😊 . Now after 8 years I still pivot on a regular basis and sometimes I don’t even helium doing it because it has become so natural to me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
How many people you know can say they get to play with balloons everyday all day and make decent money from it. I absolutely love what I do. It as truly taught me so many lessons about myself. Yes, I’m a creative and that’s really cool. I’ve always been creative as far back as I can remember, but I don’t think it presented itself until I was in high school. I use to take the Jet magazine and flip straight to the back cover where the top 20 songs were. I would take that list and create poems from the song titles. Then I remember drawing the football sign that the players would run through that the beginning of the games. But the most rewarding aspect of me being creative in this era of my life is that I have the awesome ability to take a picture and bring to life through the artistry of balloon decor.
