We were lucky to catch up with Sherry P. Hamilton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sherry P. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
We donate 10% back to organizations that joins us in our Matters of the Heart Program
its our community initiative committed to aiding Nonprofits, Churches, Community, and low-income groups facing economic hardships. Our program emphasizes the importance of understanding Cardiovascular Disease and CPR. We provide educational presentations and practical demonstrations to spread knowledge, and offer low cost training and certification for CPR AND FIRST AID TRAINING. Participants has an option to either choose a free training for two participants or receive the 10% of sales generated from course participants registration.
Sherry P., before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My story began in 2013, during my time working as a nurse. One day, I was suddenly inspired to become an American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor. I felt an undeniable calling to pursue this path, believing. I have a strong history of cardiovascular disease in my family. My grandmother passes due to congested heart failure and grandfather due to a cardiac arrests.
However, just three months into my journey, another personal tragedy occurred. A loved one suffered a fatal cardiac arrest in the presence of many family members. In the aftermath, a few family members said to me, “Sherry, I wish I could have done something more. I wish I knew CPR.” Their words and questions ignited a fire within me. I realized that I had found my true purpose: to empower others with the knowledge and skills to save lives.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In November 2022, I was inspired to take a leap of faith to step away from my nursing career to pursue my passion and purpose. I had no capital for my business, I did not take out any loans, I honestly
use the Boot strap method.
I don’t recommend this method, however this is my path I was inspired to take.
I honestly stepped out on complete faith, trusting that my path is being ordered.
I received the keys to our training location on November 1, 2022, marked the beginning of an incredible journey. Since then, we have expanded our services and instructors.
However, it has not been easy. I’ve had some highs and lows, and I’ve enjoyed every step.
There are so many times I have tought one student at a time. Each person I have poured everything I had ensuring every client leaves with an unforgettable experience. The Certification renews every two years and it’s my hope that every client I have ever tought will return to Red Heart CPR. That’s my key strategy. We are almost at our 2 yr mark and I await with such high anticipation in seeing many of my clients return.
We have established ourselves as an AHA Training Site and a Health, Safety Institute Training Center. Additionally, we are a Stop the Bleed instructors and Educational Licensee. In June 2024, we launched our newest service as a DOT and Non-DOT Drug Screening Site for pre-employment purposes.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
