We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sherry Kear a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sherry, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always known I wanted to entertain folks in some capacity.
The story IS at the RIPE ole age of three I would to carry around a box and a stick and I’d stand on that box and speak into that stick and would repeat “Now Ladies & Gentlemen” .
I was the kid at the family gatherings that was asked to sing and perform. Had runway shows my sister and I would model our clothes for the new school year. My mom actually narrated! Theatrical fam.
First play was in 3rd grade. Got the acting bug and continued onto high school and college. I landed everything I auditioned for. Still had such a long way to go & so
and so much to learn. Was going off gut.
I was constantly asked why I didn’t have an agent, What am I doing here?
I should be a model have I tried it and why I wasn’t in Hollywood. Turns out by the time i submitted for model I had a great look but was “too old” at 23.
After was cast in a professional Theatrical production and was actually paid & praised for my abilities.
I thought … I COULD ACTUALLY DO THIS for a living.
Asked again why I didn’t have an agent and why I wasnt on TV!
I thought why don’t I have an agent?
Finally got professional headshots, took more classes, workshops and auditioned for several showcases. Had a couple agents interested.
My name was getting around and folks in the showcases wanted to work with me. I had also made a few dollars in VO.
I was honing my craft & even Found love.
As in the game of Life
Sadly w/any dream no matter how great the passion & desire , life has a way of coming between you and that passion. That’s what happened.
When family calls ya hafta answer. I Picked up the “phone”.
Loss of family & friends, unemployment, health issues, homelessness and literally natural disaster’s reared their ugly heads. We ALL have challenges that test our strength and determination.
So, I put my dreams in a time out & did what I needed to do. Family & friends will always come first. Life is short. They support me and I support them.
Just took a little longer than I thought to get back on the dream wagon.
I had stoped and started my career so many times I felt like Bob’s Burgers “Re-Re Opening” .
Now that I’m back on the dream horse nothing will buck me off! LOL.
I am grateful for my Husband for believing in and HIS continued support.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I came from a crafty & disciplined family.
My dad was a model in his youth and loved movies. He was also an MP in the Army w/ a guard dog.
My mom worked for Rockwell and was involved in the shuttle launches. She was also an artist.
So creativity and discipline were a big part of our family.
We had to cook and clean do our homework and helped out others growing up. Volunteering.
I started babysitting at a young age to earn a wadge & learn responsibility.
While secretly lip synching to Bette Midler, practicing monologues & creating TV shows in my room. A reel to reel player floating out there with the variety shows & commercials my sis and I created. Love to find THAT!
I am proud of the person I’ve become. The events & people that played a part & molded me. I believe my Optimistic, hard working attitude and grateful spirit is what keeps me going and hopefully inspires others.
I am so proud of the work I’m doing. A film to celebrate hero’s and their challenges and a coupla series that embrace change & our differences.
I guess I’d have to say my brand is being an optimistically & grateful free spirit.
I am always trying to be the best version of myself, constantly learning/improving and spreading laughter.
I will always give you my best, show up ready to work, be silly and have fun!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Giving folks a moment to escape. Creating & bring words to
Life. I get to play pretend for a living! How friggen fantastic IS that!?
Bringing a smile to someone who’s had a tough day.
Hearing laughter and someone saying thanks I needed that or you made my day!
Bringing someone’s vision to life.
AAAND getting paid for it! So
Lucky!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To be able to provide for my family and exhale in my old age. I want to pay my house off so my husband can retire early & I can make the bacon! To make my people proud.
Honestly,
To prove to myself & verify that I belong in this business… that I’m “in the right lane”. My affirmation.
The better I do the MORE I can GIVE!
I have a Random Acts of kindness Foundation I’d like to create. Surprise folks in grocery stores and pay for their food stuffs, pay mortgage, electric bills. Help people in need. Maybe rent ice cream truck to pass out free sweets/food. Give $ to shelters. Crazy cool giving back things. Ya know,
I’ve always wanted to say…”This round is on me”.
