Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sherry Ellingson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sherry , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I am here to help and support those whose voices need support. As a woman who has fallen, failed and gotten back up many times to do the work I want to help other women.
My story is complicated and long, I’ll share some of it. My family and I moved here in 1979 shortly after the Revolution in Iran, because we did not support the government that took over.
Growing up I faced many challenges from health issues, overly strict family household, and racism. As an adult I worked in a corporate field after college to have them turn their back on me, because I had children. My marriage didn’t work as many don’t and have been raising my two daughters. Financially speaking I have gone up and down the roller coaster multiple times. From being a bread winner to losing all of it multiple times.
However every single one of those setbacks has strengthened me. I have learned the importance of boundaries, and how to care for myself on a deep level.
That true confidence comes from failing and building.
This is why I want to help others; especially women.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I earned my B.A. in Clothing and Textiles with a strong emphasis on the business side of the industry. After graduation I worked in Management and Assistant Buying for many years. After having a family the company that I worked for didn’t support work and family balance.
I then created my first business as a Retail Consultant to small women owned businesses ( Creative Retailing). After four years I came to realize no matter who I was working for ( fine jewelry store owner and designer, clothing designer, hair dressers, personal stylists and more) all had the same mindset. Their mindset was not allowing them to grow their business to the level that they wanted.
In the meantime I had a health scare that made me change my lifestyle habits. I had my daughters and I want to be here for them.
So I got Certified in The Martha Beck Life Coaching Program and Certified in Yoga Teacher Training back to back.
My goal is to help the whole person. Not just emotions but mindset including financial mindset, and body and spirit health.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I am a recovering people pleaser. Growing up and as young adult I had to overcome the feeling of not being good enough.
I have had to work very hard to unlearn that is not true. We all come in to this world deserving and good enough. It’s the conditioning we go through that makes us feel that way.
Learning to set boundaries with manners has taught me that I am more than good enough.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I have had to pivot many times in life for different reasons, but the one I want to share is getting divorced.
My intention and how envisioned my life when I got married was to stay married and raise our children in a happy healthy and supportive environment.
Unfortunately it didn’t work out for many reasons and I had to shift and pivot my life to create a new vision.
