We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sherrita Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherrita, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think it takes hard word and dedication to be successful. I feel you have to have access to resources and be good with time management. You have to get out of your comfort zone and be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Never give up and keep pushing forward no matter what.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started my clothing brand because I’m so in love with fashion I thought it would be only right to sell clothes and from then there started my own clothing brand K’harma
( what goes around comes around)
My business idol is Rihanna, she’s a jack of all trade and an ultimate entrepreneur.
I look up to Jay Z and Beyoncé in the industry the major power couple.
What influences my career is me being able to leave a legacy for my kids.
My influences is Virgil, Gucci, all major designers
I got in this industry mainly from the ground up, I don’t know anyone in this industry so I wasn’t able to get help with getting my foot in the door.
What’s different about my brand is I specialize in oversized hoodies and big rope hoodies I strive to be different and make my brand stand out. I love to hear ppl say” I ain’t never seen a hoodie like this before”
People should care about me and my career because I am an up coming small business owner whose looking to help improve the community by adding more jobs to the urban community
My brand was in Miami Swimweek fashion show July 2021
Also in 2021 my brand was being sold in a store Flying Solo in New York Also featured in Movers Magazines
With my free time I love to travel, skate and watch Special Victims Unit.
I want to be able to give opportunities to the community, modeling, marketing, management.
I hope I become a very wealthy clothing designer.
Social Media is the bases to getting awareness to your brand including reaching millions of people from your home.
I’m currently working on expanding my clothing line making more hype clothing and putting my hoodies on as many famous ppl as possible .
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most effective way so far for building my clientele would be starting with family and friends, even though they are not as supportive as strangers it’s a good place to start. Social media group pages with other business owners is a great place to start. Building a great website that is easy to order from and eye catching. Facebook/Instagram ads are great. TikTok is amazing.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I took my income tax money to fund my business, I started selling selling onesies with matching face mask and bonnets during the time Covid 19 first hit, everyone was quarantined and in the house so I figure this would be great place to start. I took the money and profit from this to start my own clothing line.
