We were lucky to catch up with Sherrie BENNETT recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sherrie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Growth is exciting, but from what we’ve seen across thousands of conversations with entrepreneurs it’s also dangerous if costs aren’t watched closely – sometimes costs can grow out of control outpacing revenue growth and putting the viability of the entire business at risk. How have you managed to keep costs under control?
This is hard one when your gear breaks down and it maybe a slow time for your business. When I first started out I bought a semi pro camera because it was what I could afford at the time. Also I didn’t know much about photography. Yes, I have own cheap 35 mm when I was younger but it was just to capture my family only. Well I realized I was not getting what I needed with the semi pro camera. So as money came in I bought a used better camera, yes it took me awhile to do so because was just starting out. Now I own gear that I do not need anything new for awhile.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I first got into photography when my youngest daughter was trying to be a model. I took some pictures of her for the agency and was told I had a good eye for it. So I bought my first DSLR and started shooting with fellow photographers shooting models. I learned a lot from them, learned to take camera out of auto and shoot manual. I am proud of being published in several magazines and even had front cover before. One of my images was on a banner of a church placed in downtown Atlanta. I take the time to find out what my potential clients want from their photo session and try my best to create that for them,
