We recently connected with Sherri Fogelman and have shared our conversation below.
Sherri, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I was diagnosed at 40 with an autoimmune condition called Psoriatic Arthritis. I struggled for 10 years with symptoms even though I was taking prescription medication. At 49, when my doctor proposed an even stronger medication to control my symptoms – skin rashes, GI distress, and joint pain – I decided to take a more holistic route and take a close look at my nutrition. I enrolled in a 30 day “detox” from sugar, gluten, and dairy and saw immediate improvements in all areas of my health; my sleep, joint pain, and psoriasis all improved. I knew that I was on to something. I went back to school and studied what I had done to reverse my symptoms and realized that the anti-inflammatory diet that removed the allergic, addictive, and inflammatory foods from my daily diet actually allowed my body to heal itself – as it is designed to do!

Sherri, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been a life long learner of nutrition. From the time I was a teenager in the 1980’s, I have been interested in how our food either makes us stronger or contributes to our illnesses. At age 49, when I no longer wanted to take the strong medications I was prescribed for my autoimmune condition, I looked to nutrition for some answers. Since reversing all of the symptoms of my autoimmune condition about 10 years ago, with my doctor’s blessing, I have been helping women over 45 reverse their symptoms of autoimmune and other chronic non-communicable diseases like diabetes, high cholesterol, and GI distress without prescription medications and in many cases reverse the need for those medications (with their doctor’s blessing of course). I only work with women who have a burning desire to make some nutrition and lifestyle shifts in order to sleep better, have more energy, lose the stubborn unwanted weight (often related to their chronic condition like uncontrolled blood sugar), so they can get back to the activities they love. My practice is unique because I work very closely with clients so they know EXACTLY what to eat and when, as well as how to exercise for their age and lifestyle. My work with clients is entirely customized to THIER needs and according to THIER stage in life. The internet can be a very confusing place for women trying to improve their health; I help women understand the best plan for THEM and parse out fact vs. fiction vs. fallacy vs. trendy. We work together holistically taking into account all aspects of their particular lifestyle in order to reach their health and weight loss goals. It is my absolute pleasure and passion to do so and I am 100 percent committed to my clients’ success.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My success and dedication to my clients is the number one key to building a strong reputation within my field. I operate entirely on referrals; my clients transform into the best version of themselves and it shows. They imbue the glow of better health, energy, and vitality. They look and feel better on the inside and exude the glow of true wellness in the form of more energy, healthier looking skin, and the ability to maintain a healthy weight. Maintaining a healthy weight is an important aspect of looking and feeling your best. I help women find that healthy balance of the nutrition and exercise that works best for them.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
As a child of the 70’s and 80’s, I had to unlearn many of the nutritional dogma that was promulgated to our generation. The most current research on best practices for healthy aging, especially for women, does not always align with much of the habits we were taught back in the day. For example, staying informed on the science of how our “north of 40” bodies actually respond to a high carb and low fat diet (an 80’s promoted health trend) can be helpful when it comes to reducing inflammation, cholesterol, and rising blood sugar – three serious health conditions that can be readily improved by making some nutritional and lifestyle shifts.
