Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sherrelle Clausell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sherrelle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I started creating my spice line in 2011 but was unable to fully launch my business until 2023. I had so much to figure out. I perfected my recipes. I needed assistance with branding and creating a logo. The face of Clausell’s was very important to me. I researched, planned and strategized to create a shelf ready brand. I enrolled in the Black & Brown Opportunities for Profit program that assists female entrepreneurs to build, grow and scale profitable businesses. With their support, I was able to get closer to my goal and launch my brand “Delightful & Tasty Multi-use seasoning” and I am working on expanding my empire.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I began my culinary journey at a tender age, fearlessly experimenting with flavors and techniques. At age 3, I have vivid memory of transforming eggs with seasoning salt and cracking coconuts with a hammer, foreshadowing my culinary ingenuity. Equally inspiring was the entrepreneurial spirit fostered by my great grandmother, who imparted the wisdom of trading handpicked foods with local Farmers Markets and nut manufacturing businesses. This hands-on experience in commerce provided me with a unique perspective on the culinary industry, emphasizing the importance of sustainability, community engagement, and the timeless connection between producers and consumers. The art of sustenance extended beyond the fields, as my great grandmother instilled in me the art of sourcing exotic meats through hunting, a practice that bestowed a deep understanding of diverse ingredients and flavors. This early exposure to nature’s bounty cultivated not only an exceptional culinary aptitude but also a reverence for the intricate harmony between food and the environment. My path solidified at 13 with a BBQ grill gift, igniting an entrepreneurial spark. I sold tacos, showcasing early business acumen. Collaborating with a local baker, I honed skills in baking and promotion, reflecting my multifaceted talents. Tragedy struck in 2005 with the passing of my mother, yet my determination remained unwavering. After enrolling at Ai Culinary University in 2011, I graduated with honors in 2015, earning a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Management and “Certified Sous Chef” recognition. Roles expanded, including Private Chef, Halal Chef for Emirates, and establishing “Clausell’s Luxury Cuisines LLC,” proudly woman-owned.
Through my spice line, I am able to create authentic and fusion dishes. I solve the problem in addressing boring, bland food with my soulful line of tantalizing spice blends. My dedication and unwavering respect for my craft sets me apart from others. I am most proud of my consistency and passion for food despite the obstacles that came my way throughout my endeavors.

Have you ever had to pivot?
During my journey, I took a pause from culinary. I pivoted from age 19 into my early twenties after the birth of my two children. I worked in the medical field working with patients and providing care. However, my love of food called me back and I continued the path to my calling and passion.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The legacy of my great grandmother, a beacon of culinary tradition and innovation, continues to reverberate through my culinary creations and endeavors. With each dish crafted and each culinary endeavor undertaken, the wisdom, passion, and resourcefulness instilled by my great grandmother resonates, forging an unbreakable link between my modern culinary mastery and the timeless wisdom passed down through generations. The seeds she sewed into me have allowed me to regain my resilience time and time again. I am cut from a beautiful cloth full of life and flavor. Despite the obstacles I have gone through in life, I knew that my life was better as a culinary creator, and I always come back to my roots.
