We recently connected with Sherlette Lewis and have shared our conversation below.
Sherlette , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being a business owner is the BEST thing that has ever happened in my life! It brings nothing but peace and joy being my own boss and being able to service people as I make a difference in their life. I remember when I was able to quit my job February 2021. I was MISERABLE! I had a horrible boss, I was overworked, under appreciated and I wouldn’t have the energy when I came home to dedicate it to my son. I only had time to spend with him as I was getting him together for school or getting him ready for bed. On the weekends I would be fully booked with either massages, pop up shop events to sell my products, or restocking on products. When I was able to quit and go full time with my business…. It was like a burden lifted off my chest!! I never looked back! I never thought about giving up the entrepreneur lifestyle and going back to a 9-5 job. Yes I work 24/7s now but I rather that then being sad and unappreciated at someone’s job.
Sherlette , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi everyone! My name is Sherlette and I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and A Esthetician who offers regular massages, post op massages for clients who’ve had tummy tucks, LIPO 360, BBL’s and face lifts. I also offer products for different skin types like acne, dry skin, Eczema, and mature skin. I also provide services under my scope of practice like facials, waxing/sugar waxing, eyelash extensions and manicures/pedicures. I offer a one stop service for my clients at the comfort of their own home and soon a location that they can come to for the ultimate relaxation experience.
I first started off as a massage therapist which I fell in love with because my passion is helping others feel and look good! Then I dove into skincare offering massages with my body oils and body butters. That branched out to a full blown skin care line where I now offer a variety of products from facial oils to toners and even cold process soaps (soaps made from scratch)
My business goes hand in hand because it treats the mind, body and soul all in one.
I am proud to offer services/products to people. It makes me feel good when I read a review and they explain how thorough I was in a service treatment down to how I made them feel during the entire experience. Knowing that I provide great service and products to my clients shows you that I not only care about the money but making sure that I take care of the clients because you trust me to take care of you. Wether it’s a facial, a massage or even providing you with a skin care regimen using my products… it’s the trust in me, in my business that keeps me striving to continue… to progress and evolve more and more for the people. I think this sets me apart from other businesses that’s in the industry as me. Most do not care for their clients. They care more for the money and fame.
Every experience that I have with a new client or returning client they always tell me how genuine I am as a person and they don’t see that often in a business. I take a lot of pride in that.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media through my soap making videos/ massage videos. People like to see what you are doing and how you are doing it. Even if it’s just to follow and watch you for a few months before they actually buy or book a service. They need to know that they can trust you. Especially if they haven’t met you! What better way to do that? Creating beautiful videos that makes them laugh, show off your personality, your skills, what they should expect when they book… the whole 9 yards. I feel like I’ve become a pro when making videos/content to draw my ideal customers to my platform.
The advice I would give a new starter for social media is let go of the fear and just get in front of the camera. The note you do it… the better you become! If you remain behind your comfort zone your clients can smell it and they won’t give you their trust to buy from you. Just a simple follow then unfollow.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Literally word of mouth. It’s more powerful then advertising your business with ads. Now do not get me wrong ads help if you’re consistent and it’s a great ad to draw people in… but you might get a follow here and there and a few likes versus clients actually speaking highly of your business or what you have to offer and letting them know from their experience why they recommend your business.
