Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sherita Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sherita, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always had a “photographer’s eye,” but my cell phone camera was my DSLR at the time. I would always be the one that everyone wanted to take their picture. Around 2 years ago, a good friend of mine got married, and her photographer’s arrival time wasn’t until the beginning of the ceremony, but I wanted her to have some before shots and those staged shots with her bouquet, ring, garter, shoes, etc. So what did I do? I pulled out my cell phone and made it happen. Once her photographer arrived, we chatted while she snapped, and I shared the photos with her. She says at that moment, “You should do photography!” I laughed and said, “I’ve been playing with the thought, but I don’t know. “I continued to toy with the thought, and while it was still a thought, I purchased myself a camera as a Christmas gift, never unboxing it. Maybe 2 months later, I made a Facebook status saying I should become a photographer, still just toying around with the thought. I received some rewarding responses and a paid job offer. After praying about the situation, I accepted the offer and have been feet to the pavement since.
Sherita, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I would say I specialize in more than one genre of photography as of now, but I do love boudoir, headshots, and event photography. My drive to tell a story from behind my lens sets me apart from others. I always ensure to provide the customer service that I expect when being provided service as well. I ensure that every client I encounter leaves me saying, “I truly enjoyed the experience!” I’m most proud that within a small time frame, I’ve been able to touch so many individuals in a way that they’ll never forget working with me. My brand stands on service, so we’ve been able to work with some awesome individuals outside of photos and help within the various communities on behalf of my brand. I want the readers to know that I will provide you with an everlasting memory and experience when you step before the lens. I strive to provide the client the opportunity, no matter if they look at their photos 1 week later, 3 years later, or 20 years later, they end up right back at that moment, and a smile spreads across their face as they bask in that memory.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think genuinely being me has been the best thing I could have done. Every time I show up to a shoot and greet my clients I ensure to provide the best version of ME every time. I ensure to remain relatable and down to earth.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me is, “word of mouth.” I would have to say 90% off my clientele has come from a previous client referring me and telling the next person about their experience and the quality of work they have received.
