We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sherine Harivandi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sherine below.
Hi Sherine, thanks for joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being a business owner force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am extremely happy running The Ugliest Cleaning Lady, and have no interest in returning to a “regular job.” A few months into starting my own business I entertained the idea of returning to 9-5, job but when I went on job interviews I quickly realized I could NEVER return to an office setting. The thought of someone else telling me when I am allowed to eat lunch makes me shiver now! Yes, running a small business is a lot of work, but if you’re having fun and doing what you love, everyday is an exciting new adventure.

Sherine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Yes! I am Sherine Harivandi, a Fort Collins native and cleaning enthusiast! I started my own business over 5 years ago and it has been a pleasure servicing my community. I own The Ugliest Cleaning Lady, a small cleaning and organizing business servicing Larimer and Weld County. I love vegetarian food, 80’s music, romantic comedies and cats. If you want friendly service and detailed cleanings, definitely get in touch with The Ugliest Cleaning Lady today!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The Ugliest Cleaning Lady was started during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic with a $5 ad, and we are still standing. The price of products increased while people’s budgets for luxury services like cleaning decreased. It has been a very hard time for the cleaning industry, but we are fortunate to have a loyal client base that helped us weather these storms. Our services are customized to each home and budget, and people have enjoyed the consistent cleans we provide. The Ugliest Cleaning Lady is not going anywhere, we look forward to servicing our lovely community for many more years!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Find your niche and focus on your target base. Don’t try to appeal to everyone, don’t offer too many services, and definitely don’t lower your price. Offer a high quality service, be consistent with your work, and give every client a 5-star service. Word of mouth and regularly scheduled advertisements will grow your clientele.
