We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sherina Mikasa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherina , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew I wanted to be an actor, comedian and filmmaker at a very young age. All I loved to do as a child was play. I like to have fun and make people laugh and when I learned that you can do that for a living at the age of 7 years old, I decided that that is exactly what I am going to do and I’ve been in the pursuit of it ever since.
Sherina , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am so grateful to have discovered my purpose and why I am a storyteller. My journey to a successful career as a professional actor has been full of learning experiences. When I first started out I would ask for advice from colleagues and would network as much as possible. It was a lot of work but I was getting somewhere with it. A little over 10 years ago I experienced some extreme traumatic events that put my career on hold. It took me some years to take notice that I needed to go on a deep spiritual healing. Over the years I got in to standup comedy and made a couple of short films based on what I was experiencing. I am currently in post-production for my latest film and during the pandemic I decided to become a certified life coach and meditation instructor. The past couple of years I’ve been building my business by doing motivational speaking at businesses, and on my podcast Miraculous Healing with Sherina Mikasa. I am now planning speaking events and also doing standup comedy shows. I have come to a place of self-acceptance as a storyteller, or as my mentor Bruce Lipton calls me an “edutainer.” I am on a mission to tell powerful entertaining stories of triumph and help others transform and heal their lives.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am currently at a pivot right now in my life and career. I have had to pivot many times through the years and now being in the aftermath of the pandemic while the world has changed it’s been challenging to find my place in it. I know what I have to offer to the world, I know that I have a powerful story and voice. I know that I am greatly gifted and talented. Now how do I share that with the world. I have experienced a lot of trauma which caused me to have deep fear of feeling safe in the world and on my spiritual journey I’ve been doing a lot of work to heal and clear that fear. I feel that I am finally ready to truly figure it out and go for it. This year I have tried many things to see where I may fit in and none of them have worked except for getting back to standup comedy. It allows for me to tell my story in an entertaining way. I have also had a lot of fear putting myself out there on social media. I post here and there but I am now ready to conquer that fear and utilize the platforms while staying in integrity with my core values and beliefs. I am right in the middle of the pivot so let’s see how this goes.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is absolute freedom to be all that I am. I feel I have a bit of an old school way of doing things but seeing that the world has changed so much since I first decided to be an actor, I am only now realizing that I have to let go of how I wanted it to happen and adjust to the new ways so that I may reach my goals. My mission is to share my story of healing and how I tapped in to my power, to inspire others to heal and transform their lives as well. I have been blessed with many gifts and talents and I’m so excited to share them with the world.
