We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sheridan Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sheridan below.
Sheridan, appreciate you joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
Yes I do but not as often as I’d like. I travel for work so to me that doesn’t count as a vacation. I remember growing up my mom would always plan trips for my brother and I. It would be the three of us going on adventures during the summers or holidays. I enjoyed that so much growing up.
Now that I’m older and work can get busy I don’t want that to be an excuse not to take a vacation. It’s perfectly fine to take time off and relax.

Sheridan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, I’m from Memphis, TN and I got my start in Photography from my uncle who is also a photographer. He encouraged me to give it a try and see how I’d like it. My sophomore year in college I transferred to school back home where I attended Memphis College of Art. I always knew I had a driven passion for the arts but never knew which genre I wanted to pursue. After college I moved to LA where I worked as a food photographer and photographers assistant. I also had a few retail side jobs as well. Once my time was up in LA, I moved back home where I received a job offer to do product photography for different clothing brands. A few years later I’m residing in DC now working as an architectural photographer.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I moved back to Memphis from LA I didn’t receive work right away. It took some months before I was fully working again. During those months I began to question so much about my career choice and life decisions. Nothing seemed to be working in my favor at that time. My motivation was slowly drifting away. I would pray to God and ask for guidance but things still seemed so stagnant. My mom would tell me to continue to press on and good things will be coming my way. She told me I needed to believe it and not get discouraged.
I began to speak positively over my life and continued to search for opportunities where I was needed and could grow.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For me it’s been my social media post and having my camera with me whenever I’m out exploring a new place. I’ll have to admit I haven’t mastered everything when it comes to social media. My following honestly isn’t big compared to others but it’s still been effective in many ways. I would make sure to post once everyday and at least one or two reels a week.
