We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shereka Heard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shereka, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?

Hard work, patience, and dedication is what it takes to be successful. You have to be consistent with your business in order to get your name out there. It won’t happen over night. It may take awhile but keep going and don’t give up.

Shereka, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I started my business 5 years ago in October and I can honestly say that I went about it the wrong way. I had absolutely nothing when I started my business. I thought I had wrote everything out about how I was going to go about booking my first event. I started advertising on Instagram and within my first week of advertising, I got my first booking. The pressure was on then. I rushed to order my first bar and buy everything I needed to serve at my very first event. After that first event I kept getting bookings and it’s been great every since.

I enjoy Bartending at each and every event. I get to meet new people and since the bar is the focal point I’m always talking to the guest.

I’m most proud when past clients call back to book again. That let’s me know that I’ve done a good job at their first event with ITM and they are happy with our services and quality of work.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.

I send out emails from time to time to past clients offering an discount off their next booking. During the holidays, I send an holiday card.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Besides my hard work, my dedication to each event and the quality of service that we offer is what help me build my reputation. Also just plain old word of mouth. When you do your best serving this client, they will always pass along your information to the next person. We also get a lot of leads from guest at events we do just by them taking our business cards. Reputation is a big deal for me.
