We were lucky to catch up with Sheree Greider recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sheree, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am completely happy as an artist. It’s something I knew I’ve loved since I was 4 years old and painted my first painting. I drew a horse on a block of wood left over from the construction of my small home I dad was building for us. I drew the horse in crayon and painted it with water colors from a little school tin I had.

Sheree, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been a creative all my life but did not become a fulltime working artist until I turned 60. I’m 68 now. Since then I’ve painted several hundred paintings and have sold and shipped throughout the US and a few overseas. I specialize in modern landscapes with huge cloud dramas. Color is a major player in my work. I also have done quite a bit figurative work. Our family is multiracial and I often feature themes that emphasis the importance of diversity.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most fulfilling aspect of painting is connecting with the viewer. When the buyer falls in love with a piece, it makes all the hard work and trials of painting worth it.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I have found that visiting museums and seeing the work of masters is so inspiring. I collect books about favorite artists and enjoy studying their journeys and processes. I also love IG because it’s opened a window on the artistic world, worldwide. I’ve had conversations with artists from around the world and seeing their work and them seeing mine has been a huge encouragement for my development.
