We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sheralyn Bennett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sheralyn below.
Alright, Sheralyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a client that you appreciate them?
Our clients are our main focus in our real estate business (I work with my husband Chris). We do many things throughout the year to keep in touch with past clients (stopping by their home with a small gift, client parties, etc) I think the things that have really made a difference are that we are not afraid to get our hands dirty & do manual labor to help clients out in a pinch. One example that stands out in my mind is a home that had had a hard time selling, once it did, the buyers loan required some fixes that the seller did not have much money to do themselves. We are pretty handy (we actually both have our contractors licenses too) We went over and spent the weekend scraping & painting some peeling paint so that it would pass the requirements. That is not the first time, we have done several things (lawn mowing, weeding, cleaning, hauling off junk, etc) to help clients out. One client told us he was impressed with our dedication & how kind we were.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started real estate in 2009. I actually had been laid off from my job at APX Alarm (Vivint now). I had to make the decision on whether to feel down on myself or to see it as an opportunity to go full force into real estate. It was very scary, but I decided to give it a go & I have never regretted that decision. It was a hard market to get into, lots of short sales, foreclosures, very different than it is now. But I learned a lot & I think it was the best thing that could have happened. I actually sent my old boss a thank you card for firing me haha. We take careful consideration into what clients we work with, we want it to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. I would say that the majority of clients end up being good friends at the end, which we love.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I absolutely love Brene Brown & Jen Sincero, among many others. Their books just make you feel so empowered & confident. I think constantly learning & improving is necessary, We can always be a little better.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
We rely heavily on past clients referring their friends & family to us for business. We truly value these referrals, what a compliment to have someone recommend you.
