We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sher ( Tyler ) Randhir ( Duncan ). We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sher ( Tyler ) below.
Sher ( Tyler ) , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
In 2022, I organized and co-hosted a brainchild of mine, the Ebb and Flow festival. Together with many Wichita artists, creators, teachers, and go-getters and the Rekinection crew out of Kansas City, we made this restival a true gem. The goal was to bring a playful and diverse set of teachings and workshops to our community in a family friendly healing environment. We had a really good time. We painted with things found in nature, we had live DJs, nature walks, wire wrapping and a whole slew of things to enrich the experience. Our closing ceremony we walked a labyrinth together and had a huge group hug. We felt supported, connected to our creativity and our families. Ebb and Flow was really about self-exploration; cultivating joy, curiosity, and playfulness in a safe community environment. Those events are my passion and I am honored to be part of the ReKinection crew so that I can continue my life’s work. Look out for Ebb & Flow and ReKinection events in 2024 and beyond!
Sher ( Tyler ) , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My life has been a journey of learning. Learning how to interact with external environments and people, learning how to look into myself to move through things and find grace in this life, learning to simply be and ultimately learning joy. I dance, I sing, I walk, I immerse, I create, I am. I show people themselves, and hopefully they gain insights to make their interaction with the external and self more fluid.
I’ve explored a lot of avenues, had several jobs, interests, and they all led me to where I am today. From a party animal to a chill-nimal, from drugi – to yogi. My creativity is all linked to attempting to elevate myself and my community into a place of peace and stability.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Two things: Words of Support / Financial Support – – Show up to events, donate to them when you can or buy their wares. Capitalism and creatives do not always mesh, and many of us find it challenging to navigate. So if you wish to support someone, and have the means to, do so! Also, hearing feedback, and supportive comments helps, as we oftentimes do things for the void not knowing who, or what will engage with our creations!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Between 2018-2019 I felt as though I was running full-bore down two paths simultaneously. I had been involved with organizing events, or working them for some time, and part of this was an excuse to imbibe (as is common in this industry). Having a history of addiction, I would only allow myself to activate certain behaviors at certain times, and this was a certain kind of festival. Now, as I grew I saw a need to alter my behavior at these events, and start to focus on events that weren’t just a fancy party with a tendency for extreme hangovers. Being from Wichita, we are known for our ability to be loud and have a good time (we carry the background name ratcheta at festivals … )
Come this point in time (18-19), I had been practicing tools of the self, like meditation and yoga, long enough to have experienced enough internal growth to know I needed to remove those ideas of HAVING to have these heavily intoxicated experiences from myself, yet part of me resisted, and I felt extremely divided. I wanted to be a teacher, a guide, and help people realize themselves, but while still feeling internally obligated to party a certain way, it felt incredibly false.
Around this time I made a decision to see myself as a sober person (even if it was not 100% true, sometimes it is important to plant an ideal in our subconscious and carry it, so it becomes a conscious state of being), and to point my attention at doing my best here. Not focusing on the party side of me, but feeding my spirit, Do not get me wrong, I love a good party, but I enjoy seeing these events through eyes unclouded.
Festivals are MUCH more than a party, they are an opportunity to feel freedom in movement and expression, they are a chance to meet a community at large, if you choose to experience these sober, you will find a deeper, longer lasting connection here.
The pivot, was the choice of cleaner behavior, to do my best to walk my path gracefully and not fall victim to the internal addict that is certainly still there. This choice, was made, was easy and it has greatly me as I navigate this reality!
