Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sher & Hope. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sher, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of opening a yoga studio just happened. In 2018 Sher started teaching yoga and shortly after was teaching out of his house. Regularly filling the room the notion to get a public space became necessary and in 2020 he found a brick and mortar that was affordable and opened up for business. In 2024, Hope stepped in as Studio Director. She is a kundalini teacher and his life partner. Trailblazing this path together has been serendipitous to say the least and now having a family business is a very special endeavor.
Both Sher and Hope recognize that being a yoga teacher is more than just teaching people to bend into various positions, it is turning people inward and assisting them in finding their path and purpose. Sher knew when he started the power of Kundalini Yoga, but he took for granted how much of an impact it has on his own reality and how this would translate to those he worked with. Together, they created a space that is inclusive and teaches people to find inner peace; it was obvious this is needed! EVERYONE NEEDS TO RELAX, EVEN IF THEY DON’T REALIZE IT.
As things picked up, Hope made her first official full time debut at Through Breath Yoga, as Studio Director and instructor at the end of 2024. Having her fill the newly formed position and a fair bulk of the teaching schedule has changed the dynamic of the space in a great way. Bringing in much needed vison, values and the drive to bring community into the space as a sanctuary for all people, Hope & Sher are continuing to adapt and ground into their home of Wichita, Kansas.
Being able see people change before you eyes, face their pasts and clear their energies is an exciting path!
Sher, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Through Breath Yoga is a safe space for anyone to come and learn about themselves. Sher is a long time Yogi who has a diverse background, this fact has helped him gain perspective while having empathy for all types of struggles in life. Hope is a compassionate and driven being, who likes to push people into their limits and assist them break free of self-imposed limits or beliefs. When these two became a couple, Sher was doing a daily mantra practice of Happy am I, Healthy am I, Holy am; Hope had values that aligned with these words and it made her curious of the path. In 2020 Hope went to the Sat Tirath Ashram in Kansas City and did her level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training to solidify this side of her path.
We point people at themselves. Awareness and presence are two of the greatest energies a person can dawn, helping community grow into a supportive and loving entity is our passion, and this becomes easier once people free themselves of stuck emotions and stagnant energies. A little quote Sher likes to throw out, “It’s funny how people are so bad at paying attention to themselves, when it is truly one of the only things we “pay” for that is free”.
Life starts with the breath, and when we learn to balance the breath we balance our minds, and once our minds are balanced our lives are calmer and we are less reactive and more responsive. Virtually every students we encounter has some level of unconscious breathing pattern that needs addressed, whether is stress response, asthma, apnea, or any other breathing related issue. So breathing is where we begin with our students, it is incredible how many people do not take deep breaths regularly!! An awesome element of this digital age is we are able to do these offerings digitally as well as in person, so we are not held back by geography!
Sher was asthmatic and smoked various things for over 20 years, and now he is symptom free and feeling amazing. The tools learned through various paths afforded him to heal these ailments (addiction + asthma) and move towards a path of health and freedom!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Being consistent and genuine has helped us grow our clientele . We strive to show up to each offering, and each event with a consistent energy to support our attendees / clients. We are continually growing as people, and learning from our experiences. We show our true selves to our community and this helps us to maintain our community in a way that is sustainable energetically.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That life is a hustle and money is king. Sher spent years chasing money and it felt like an uphill swim. He was proud of his ability to hustle up funds for whatever he needed. His self worth was tied to this, when things dipped he felt defeated, when things rose he felt successful.
Over time he realized that simply trusting that his efforts will produce results is a better way. Unlearning the hustle and bustle life-style took time, and still at times it creeps into his energies, but overall he makes himself step back and find ease when he gets overwhelmed.
Life is more than money, if we have food, shelter, and our needs are met, then all is well. Remembering that abundance is already here, we just have to see it, is what the hustle and bustle lifestyle is replaced with.
