We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shennay Hampton A.K.A Shè RNB . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shennay below.
Shennay, appreciate you joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Yes I have absolutely felt misunderstood. I became apart of a entertainment network of music and video professionals thinking it would be a good way to kickstart my career as an artist and acting professional. At first things went well and I started to gain popularity amongst my peers however once they started to have issues amongst each other I became ousted because I chose to not engage with thier issues or pick a side. At that point I was labeled as someone who wasn’t loyal and my name was slandered then eventually kicked out of the group. It was a hard lesson for me because I chose to step away from it all even after the apologies came. At my core I just enjoyed the work and truly did not want to ruin my relationships with anyone. Sadly these misunderstandings tarnished my name among other groups in entertainment. What I took from it is sometimes developing friendships with people you work with can sometimes make or break your career and as the saying goes…do not mix business with pleasure.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When I’m performing I truly enjoy seeing the reactions from the crowd whether good responses or bad the ability to move people through song is the most amazing experience. My motivation is truly in motivating and uplifting others. It is a reward within itself to know you can influence others in a positive way.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Being new to platforms such as Tik Tok building an audience organically seemed almost impossible to do organically in a post Covid world. For me I’m not a great dancer and suck at coming up with getting people to engage in the latest challenge lol. However I finally found a niche which was speaking about my spiritually and enwrapping it into the music. Amazingly I started to gain a following of others who were spiritual just like me and enjoyed hearing my topics. Slowly I noticed my following starting to gradually increase and I keep adding more everyday. My advice to anyone is be who you are, talk about your interests and by you being yourself will help you to naturally pull a following.
