We recently connected with Shenika Rolle -Smith and have shared our conversation below.
Shenika , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My hero was, and is my father Ronald Rolle, and I say it like that because he has passed on, but he is still my hero because he was such a kind, honorable, smart, humble, genuine forgiving person, and I looked up to him so much he was so knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve learned so many things from my father. how to forgive others how to always be true to my word, but most definitely my father taught me entrepreneurship he would always say I don’t want you working for anyone and that stuck with me from a little girl so I grew up saying that I will be my own boss. My dad never worked for anyone he was the ultimate hustler and so am I.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi, my name is Shenika, Rolle Smith I’m originally from a little island called Grand Bahama. I am a mother of three beautiful boys, a wife. I started doing hair from very young. I started off with family members inside the house. doing hair is not just for the money. This is my calling it’s my ministry. I love interacting with clients being able to speak life into clients that needs it. I believe that we should protect our crowns by being careful of who we allow in our heads. I am happy when I can make my clients feel beautiful. what sets me apart from other hairstylist,I interact with my clients, I teach my clients balance, and how to take care of their hair properly. I make my clients feel comfortable to talk to me. Honestly, my clients are very spoiled. I believe in being professional and kind,I believe you have to be able to communicate with your hairstylist in order to make them happy with their service, I provide services like hair care, Tape in extensions, weave extensions silk press scalp exfoliation treatment, and so much more. This business was started by God and it is fueled by God.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I started doing hair from home, I knew that God had gifted me with the ability to be able to do hair but I needed more funds to take care of my newborn so I went back into the medical field and said I would do hair on the side. I ended up giving more of my time to the job rather than my business, but on the job I realize that I was making someone else rich and pouring my time and effort into a company, that’s not mine during that time I was transitioning into the career that God wanted me to be in full-time I wanted to quit, but was so scared to let go of the security, fear was playing a big factor I was not being obedient so I didn’t quit, but I ended up getting fired around the time that I was pregnant and about to get married. but God had everything planned. I ended up opening my own salon through gods grace. I was scared to leave a job because of security reasons, but all along God had more in store for me.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I’m still building on social media, but I will definitely say that creating content is key even if your content isn’t getting as much likes or views, you have to keep posting you have to be consistent.
