We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shenika Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shenika, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
Absolutely—I live for vacations! As a wife, mom, business owner, and passionate advocate for self-care (especially for those of us juggling multiple roles), I cherish any chance to unplug and reset.
I touched on this a little in a recent blog post I wrote, recapping a girl’s trip I took to Barbados. Birthday destination celebrations have become the norm for my husband and me and aren’t just about fun—they’re powerful tools to boost mental wellness, spark creativity, strengthen connections, and create unforgettable memories.
My advice to fellow entrepreneurs: plan ahead, and give yourself permission to step away. Off-peak travel and shorter getaways closer to home can work wonders. Sign up for fare alerts, start a travel fund—even a little bit set aside consistently makes a difference. And don’t sleep on solo trips—they’re magical for clarity and vision.
The truth is, the more I take care of myself, the better I show up for my family and clients. So yes, take the vacation. Your business—and your body—will thank you.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi, I’m Shenika—the heart behind Davis Signature Events & Design, where we create one-of-a-kind, themed celebrations that feel elevated, personal, and unforgettable. The seed was planted when I planned my own wedding in just three months, but the true spark came after organizing a grand celebration for my son’s first birthday—a milestone that marked not only his incredible first year of life but also my journey into motherhood. That experience ignited something in me, and the business was born.
As a former counselor turned full-time event planner, I bring a unique blend of creativity, intuition, and calm under pressure to every event. From weddings and milestone birthdays to community events and corporate celebrations, my goal is to design experiences that reflect your story and feel just as amazing as they look.
What sets me apart? I don’t believe in copy-paste events. I believe in intentional design, immersive details, and thoughtful touches that speak to who you are. Clients come to me when they want something that’s not just beautiful—but meaningful.
I’m most proud of the way my work brings joy, creates lasting memories, and allows people to truly be present. Whether it’s a surprise proposal or a 50th birthday bash, my job is to bring the vision to life—and make it look effortless.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Over the past couple of years, I’ve become much more intentional about reading, and several books have really supported me on my entrepreneurial journey. One I’m currently reading is How to Do the Work by Dr. Nicole LePera. It’s not a traditional business book, but it’s been incredibly impactful in helping me better understand myself, manage stress, and show up more grounded and present as a leader. It’s a reminder that doing the inner work is just as important as the business strategy.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals have been my biggest source of new clients—whether from past clients, vendors, or guests who attended an event I planned. Google has also brought in strong leads thanks to reviews and SEO, and I’m grateful to have a few clients who come back for multiple events, which is always the highest compliment.
