We recently connected with Shena Samone and have shared our conversation below.
Shena, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always known music was my path. A childhood friend took me to a studio in high school, where I recorded my first hook. Years later, after auditioning for shows like American Idol and America’s Got Talent, I joined a band I found through an ad. I stayed for a few years, then formed a trio, and later created my own band.
Life eventually hit hard, and I reached a point where I didn’t want to live anymore. But my tribe reminded me of my purpose. I put all that energy into becoming an independent artist, and I’ve stayed on that mission ever since. Music truly saved my life.

Shena, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
With my music, I write all my own lyrics, and I aim to create songs that truly reflect who I am. I even design products that connect with each track like my custom rum, crafted to pair with each song. Rum is my favorite, so I want my listeners to not just hear my music, but actually taste it.
I’ve also created a lip gloss line because I absolutely love lip gloss, and I want my listeners to enjoy some of the things I use every day. I’m always looking for creative ways to let people experience different parts of who Shena Samone really is.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission for creating music is simple: to craft lyrics and sounds that people can enjoy and truly connect with. I’m someone who loves meaningful lyrics, so I want my listeners not only to feel the rhythm, but to really hear what I’m saying. I want people to have those moments where they think, “Wow, I’ve been through that.”
With my song Demons, creating the visual was considered taboo because it touched on topics people rarely talk about. But that was the point to open the door for conversations that are often avoided.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being a creative, for me, is the freedom to share my story. I get to use a tool I love—music—to create moments that listeners can feel right along with me, whether it’s feeling sexy, sad, happy, or ready to dance. Sharing my talent with the world is a gift in itself.
I’ve also been blessed with some amazing opportunities. Recently, I was asked to write a hook and sing on a track with a well-known hip-hop artist. That has been one of my greatest accomplishments so far, especially because I had been questioning whether I should take a break or if this path was still right for me. And every time I have those doubts, the universe seems to tap me on the head and suddenly ten more opportunities come my way, lol.
