We recently connected with Shelton Foreman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelton , thanks for joining us today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
I take like 6-7 vacations a year. Some may say that is too many, but, I vacation for mental health and clarity. Life is short, and I still handle business when I am away. I love seeing the world, and sometimes I visit the same places. I feel like we all have addictions, and vacationing is one of my adult addictions.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am from Atlanta, Georgia, and my parents raised me in College Park, GA. One of the recent entertainers would say, “That is not Atlanta.” I am a proud graduate of Troy University. I graduated with a business degree in 2011 and from Liberty University in 2012. I have been on a constant grind since I left North Clayton High School in 2004. I was always a “go-getter,” I am heavy on setting my intentions and secure within my faith. I was not born with a silver spoon and had to support many dreams alone. I learned to walk securely alone. If someone wrote an autobiography about me, they would say I am strong, rambunctious, spontaneous, hardworking, and bullheaded when it comes to accomplishing a goal.
Will I ever forget my real estate industry pursuit? Why? I joined the real estate industry on a whelm, meeting a very successful real estate agent. I want to say her name, but she may request a commission check for mentioning her name. ( inserts laughter). I saw her making over 20k a month, and I was a teller at a bank at the time. I had to ask her about her industry, and she told me to “go to school and find out.” I said, “I am in my junior year of college. However, being solid and curious, I researched getting a license in Georgia and pursued and conquered the test in 2006. Honestly, it was one of the most significant decisions I ever made. Over the last 16 years, I have dedicated my time and energy to the industry and assisted over one-hundred families. I have helped clients even when they thought they could not pursue home ownership. I am the proud owner of Dream Elite Properties LLC. Some people may think it’s a walk in the park being a Real Estate Brokerage owner. This industry is not for the faint of heart; knowing I have weathered 16 years astonishes me every day. My potential clients and fans will know that my tenacity and strength will always assist them in reaching their real estate goals.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of new clients will be referrals and my results of SEO marketing. I have learned to appreciate both and never to take any source or lead for granted.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I will never forget the recession of 2009! I was a new agent full of passion and resilience but without experience on how to thrive in the hard times. I went from selling 4-5 homes monthly to two to one every three months. I never gave up, and I had to work side jobs to survive, all while pursuing another degree. I had moments of silent tears and struggles, but I never gave up.
