We recently connected with SheLovesKiing and have shared our conversation below.
SheLovesKiing, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had started sooner?
Honestly, I really wish I would have started my creative career earlier than when I did. With all of the knowledge about the industry that I’ve gained up to now, and just with how rapidly I started gaining more and more insight about the industry… like learning how to market and make a name for myself.. I could have reached a lot of goals in a shorter amount of time than I did/have.
A big part of me waiting so long to take my creative career serious and being so inconsistent originally was due to being concerned about what others may think about my content. There’s a lot of hate and negativity out in this world.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Sure. My name is King, or “SheLovesKiing”. I am a 21-year old content creator, influencer, and entrepreneur. You can find me on just about all social media platforms, but primarily on Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube @SheLovesKiing. My Clothing Brand “Rich Prophets” can also be found on Instagram and TikTok @1richprophets.
I started out in the content creation world actually by making Youtube videos on my channel. As I continued growing with support, I started getting more and more comfortable with being in the camera.. which also led to me posting more on Instagram; no matter if it was just photos of myself, outfit pictures, my friends and I, school/sports related things at the time, etc. From there, I then started landing collaborations with other clothing brands and companies who began to reach out due to the engagement on my posts.
In the midst of all of that and the covid-19 era, I also started researching into beginning my own clothing brand. The brand was called “Cursed Vibes”. I had a few designs I was working on, but I never got around to actually releasing any of the pieces. Honestly, i’m not too mad about that though.. It would have been a great start for me to jump into the business deeper and learn a few things earlier on, but there were a lot of things holding me back. I had a lot going on personally, I didn’t have the complete time and knowledge to get the fundamentals of running a brand down to a tee, and my designing skills at that time were definitely not to par.
Things are going a lot better for my current clothing brand, Rich Prophets, though.. I’ve gotten my LLC, my foundation is a lot more established, and I have the tools and resources I need in order to be successful. I have high hopes for my upcoming drop on December 1st.
Going back to the content creation side of things though.. honestly, I just continued carrying the hype I had and building around it, in order to further my success. Along the way, TikTok came out and although I was reluctant at first, I ended up using the platform. Over the course of maybe a year or two, I ended up gaining an amass of around 15K followers while graduating high school and beginning my college journey at Old Dominion University.
Since then, I’ve just continued to work hard towards perfecting my craft and building my audience.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The best advice I could give to someone just starting to build a social media presence is to just be as consistent as possible and don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith. Post that content that you’re afraid to. Jump out to those other platforms. Don’t be afraid to network. The quicker you make a name for yourself on one platform.. the quicker you can easily get those same supporters to follow you over to another platform. That’ll already help you with making your presence known on that second platform. Then continue to build off of that while you’re still building you’re image on the first platform as well. Before you know it, you’ll have an empire of support.
Continue to build around that support, doing what you love most and what your supporters love seeing/getting from you. Never sacrifice your true self for anything though, always make sure that whatever you’re doing makes YOU happy first.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I’d say the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is just knowing that the content I create is impactful to others in many positive ways. Whether if it’s just for the purposes of entertainment and bringing a smile to someone’s day, providing advice or guidance about a particular situation/challenge, or even just for motivational purposes.. Just showing people that anyone can do it as long as you stick with it and believe in your vision. You never really know what others are out here going through or dealing with.. Sometimes things can only be seen or heard from one particular person in order for that one person watching or listening to really grasp onto that energy or information and it have a positive impact on their current life situation(s) or future.
