We recently connected with Shelley Meche’tte and have shared our conversation below.
Shelley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I have had a couple of defining moments in my career, but I think one of the most defining moments was niching down to work specifically with mompreneurs, vs all women. Like many speakers and coaches, I felt that I had a message beneficial to everyone. And while life-balance and self-care are universal needs, when I decided to narrow in on a specific audience and how that particular audience’s life-balance and self-care are affected due to their specific lifestyle, I was able to connect better; which allowed me to better serve, support, and speak directly to their real, lived experiences.
This shift changed everything for me; not just in terms of business, but in purpose. Before niching down, I often found myself casting a wide net with generic messaging. But when I began to focus on mompreneurs and their juggling act between raising children, building businesses, managing homes, and still wanting to honor their own ambitions, I was better able to speak their language, connect with my own stories and experiences…and offer real solutions that actually fit their lives.
When you speak to everyone, it becomes more difficult to connect. But when you lean into a specific group’s struggles, triumphs, and dreams…your message not only becomes more powerful, it becomes more effective.
This defining moment didn’t just elevate my business, it created impact. And that’s the kind of success that matters most to me.
Shelley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Thank you for asking—this is one of my favorite questions because it allows me to share not just what I do, but why I do it. I’m Shelley Meche’tte: a Certified Life Purpose & Confidence Coach, EmpowHERment Speaker, Best-selling Author and Mom-life Strategist.
I’m a passionate advocate for mompreneurs who are ready to boldly build their business while still honoring their role as a mother, without guilt. And now I also offer Speaker Development Coaching, because I believe that the momprenuer story has the power to transform lives, and motherhood should never mute that mission.
I didn’t start off working specifically with mompreneurs. Like many of us in the coaching and personal development realm, I believed my message was for everyone. After all, confidence, life-balance, and self-care are universal needs. But that thought changed for me one day when I found myself on my bathroom floor experiencing a full emotional breakdown after looking in the mirror and not recognizing the woman staring back at me. I had lost pieces of myself while trying to do all the things and be all the things to everyone, except me. That feeling of invisibility… of fading behind responsibilities, expectations, and titles had finally come crashing down… and it hit me hard.
That moment however became the catalyst for a major shift in my life and my purpose. I realized that mompreneurs are many times forgotten in conversations around success. They face unique challenges, including guilt around self-prioritization, burnout, and the constant juggle between home and hustle. I wanted to change that.
Today, I empower mompreneurs to reclaim their identity, balance motherhood with ambition, and build profitable businesses through speaking. I offer coaching, digital programs, live events, and products like Own the Stage: 10 Mistakes New Speakers Must Avoid to Captivate and Command Every Audience and The Balanced Mom Blueprint, all designed to help women build confidence, monetize their message, and feel seen again.
What sets me apart is the heart behind my strategy. I don’t just “teach strategies”; I provide the tools needed for my clients to rewrite their narratives. I know what it feels like to question your worth, to juggle dreams with diapers, and to doubt your own brilliance. My approach is a blend of mindset mastery, strategic speaking development, and real-life practicality that empowers mompreneurs to rise with clarity and confidence.
What I’m most proud of isn’t the stages I’ve stood on or the media I’ve been featured in, but it’s the women who come back to me with quiet confidence thanking me for helping them rediscover the woman they thought they had lost or for reminding them that their dreams still matter, even in the midst of motherhood. Their transformation is the real reward.
If there’s one thing I’d want new clients, followers, or supporters to know about my brand and my work, it’s this: You don’t have to choose between being a phenomenal mother and a powerful businesswoman. You can do both…and you can do them well. Lastly, don’t walk this journey alone. You need a community who understands your challenges and inspires your growth. I’m here to help you lead with confidence, speak with purpose and shine unapologetically in every area of your life.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, I believe one of the most helpful factors for succeeding in my field is authenticity. People are drawn to realness, especially in coaching and speaking. You can have all the credentials in the world, but if people don’t feel seen, heard, or connected to you, it’s extremely difficult to build trust or provide transformation.
In my work with mompreneurs, showing up as my full, imperfect self has been one of the most powerful tools for connection. It has given others permission to do the same. Success in this field also requires resilience and the ability to keep showing up when it’s uncomfortable, when the audience is quiet, or when imposter syndrome creeps in.
And finally, it takes clarity of purpose. When you truly understand who you’re serving and why you’re serving them, it keeps you grounded, even on your most challenging days.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
AB-SO-LUTE-LEE!! YES…without a doubt, I would definitely choose this profession and path all over again. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it!! Every challenge, every pivot, and every lesson has brought me closer to the women I believe I’m called to serve. Speaking and coaching mompreneurs, guiding them as they reclaim their identity, balance their roles, and build businesses through speaking is not just what I do, it’s who I am.
There’s something deeply fulfilling about watching a woman go from self-doubt to stage-ready, from burnout to boldness. I’ve seen firsthand how powerful transformation can be when someone is supported, seen, and given the right tools. If I had to do it all over, I’d jump right in, because I’m building a legacy that allows me to impact the lives of others, while still honoring my own.
