We were lucky to catch up with Shellem Cline recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shellem, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I started singing with my family at age 7 and knew that I wanted to be an artist immediately. At the age of 16 I went out on my own and began the career but when I went full time in 2016, I knew that I was doing exactly what I was supposed to do. I love writing, being on stage and seeing the smiles of the audience members. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Shellem, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So my music is “Christian Country and Comedy.” We share family friendly songs and stories and try to give encouragement to the people that I get to perform for. When I signed my first deal and received a promoter and publicist, I thought I was on top of the world, but when we gained our first number one hit, then I knew God was using me. Don’t get me wrong, it gets hard and very tiring but when you are able to share your story and a ministry with people who need encouragement and they tell you after just how much they needed you, then that made it all worth the work.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to encourage the believer and give hope to the non-believer. Our world is filled with hate and people that have been hurt and my goal is to reach out to people that may not be in church, but are still loved by Jesus. I want to let them know that others may hurt you and want you to fail but Jesus is always there for you and wants you to succeed.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Attend shows and support the artist by purchasing their music. Streaming is great but it does not benefit the artist like paying for a ticket, buying a t-shirt or even a usb drive with the music.
