We were lucky to catch up with Sheldon Dottery recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheldon, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I do wish I started my career as an author sooner yes. I have so many ideas for all sorts of novels, but of course my mind began to play tricks on me when I was working on this first novel. Constantly thinking negative and feeling like the book wouldn’t get the proper support from not only my peers but the world as well.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an artist, actor and author. I make music for myself and others, I write scripts and direct and star in independent films and I am now an author, I released my first book titled “A Vampire’s Story” in November of 2023.
Music runs in my family and growing up my dad use to have my siblings and I in the studio with him all the time! While he worked on his projects, So it was bound to find me later in life. Music is my happy place, I am free while listening or creating my own.
I began acting in 9th grade at the age 14, I was in the drama club and did multiple plays throughout Highschool and college. I even have done multiple stand up comedy shows which I would love to start pursuing again.
Becoming an author is the most recent thing I’ve added to my resume. I love to create new stories, my imagination is very big and I can’t wait to release more novels.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goals is for I make what I love to do my only source of income. Creating is what I love to do and I want to be able to get paid for doing something I love.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to relate to someone. Someone being touched by my work and telling me “I needed this”
