We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shelby Stewart. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shelby below.
Shelby, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
It’s difficult to pinpoint the best piece of advice I’ve given a patient as each person is so unique and requires different guidance. However, my approach with each patient is to first make sure they understand that they are already beautiful and that my role is to enhance their natural features. I recognize that we tend to be our own harshest critics, so I aim to build my patients confidence and self-esteem.
I believe that effective communication is key to a successful patient relationship. I take the time to understand each patient’s goals and provide honest feedback while setting achievable expectations. My attention to detail and ability to tailor individual treatment plans has led to positive results and long- lasting relationships with my patients. It’s fulfilling to see my patients leave feeling beautiful and confident, and here at Botox Bar, we are dedicated to doing whatever we can to help them achieve their desired outcomes.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was raised in a small town in Kansas and pursued a dual major in Human Biology and Latin American Studies at the University of Kansas. Despite my passion for medicine, I was unsure about my future in the field and decided to take a break after graduation. I moved to Spain and worked as an English teaching assistant for a few years, traveling and exploring different parts of the world. However, I eventually felt unchallenged and decided to return to medicine.
Upon successfully finishing my Master’s degree in a Physician Assistant (PA) program and rotating through 12 different medical specialties, I discovered my passion for working in the operating room. Upon starting my career as a PA-C, I worked in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN), where I was first introduced to the captivating world of aesthetics. I found myself deeply intrigued by the field of injections, drawn to the artistry and positivity it entails. Motivated by this passion, I began actively seeking opportunities in surgical and injector positions to further my career in this exciting field.
After reaching out to several aesthetic medicine practices on social media, I landed an interview with Botox Bar, which is where I currently inject on the weekends. Throughout the week, I work as a plastic surgery PA-C in the operating room, where I care for patients of all ages, including children. In this field, there is a chance to aid patients in enhancing their physical appearances and, in some cases, better their quality of life. Working with children can be especially fulfilling since helping them to overcome physical abnormalities or injuries can positively influence their self- confidence and self-worth as they mature. Fortunately, I’ve been able to experience the best of both worlds, taking my operating room knowledge and expertise to the injection chair.
At Botox Bar, we specialize in cosmetic injections with a focus on natural and subtle corrections to maintain a youthful appearance. Our goal is to be consistent in providing a first-class aesthetic medicine practice experience for our patients. We strive to be Dallas/Fort Worth’s premier practice where patients choose to have safe, effective, and innovative medical grade services. We strive to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere where vibrant faces come to us for natural-looking results. We also provide exceptional customer service as we proudly shape rewarding relationships with our patients, mutually built upon the patient experience, our expertise, and our commitment to deliver unparalleled treatment options. Among our various injection services that we offer, my personal favorite treatments to perform are liquid rhinoplasties and full- face balancing + harmonization.
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients to know about you and your work? Please provide as much detail as you feel relevant.
What sets me apart as an injector is my extensive experience in facial anatomy and emergency procedures from my time in the OR. Working alongside a craniofacial plastic surgeon has given me invaluable insight into the nuances of facial structures and safe injection techniques. Additionally, I strive to build meaningful relationships with my patients to create a comfortable and welcoming environment. My combination of education, experience, personality, and my ability to articulate my vision sets me apart as an injector.
I take great pride in the fact that I have always pursued my dreams, and I am currently working at my dream jobs. What makes these jobs even more satisfying is the fact that I work for people who not only excel in their field but also embody high ethical standards.
As an injector, I prioritize providing honest recommendations to my patients, and will never suggest any treatment that is unnecessary or unwanted. In my opinion, every individual deserves to feel happy, healthy, and rested when they wake up and face themselves in the mirror. It’s a positive experience that not only makes people stand a little taller, but also brings a smile to their face. My goal is to help my patients achieve this by enhancing their natural beauty and giving them a subtle and refreshed look that others will notice, but they will not know the secret behind it. It’s their little secret to share and cherish, just the way it should be. I share a strong alignment with Botox Bar’s vision and values which are:
· Innovation and Exceptional Outcomes: emphasizing the importance of innovation in achieving outstanding results for patients, constantly striving for excellence in all aspects of treatment.
· Ongoing Education and Constant Practice: Recognizing the significance of continuous learning and practice to stay at the forefront of the field, ensuring the delivery of the highest standard of care.
· Advancement and Growth: Valuing the intrinsic nature of personal and professional growth for all individuals.
· Compassion, Respect, and Dignity: Treating all individuals with compassion, respect, and dignity, recognizing the importance of empathy and understanding the delivery of care.
· Honest, Factual, and Courteous Communication: Promoting open and transparent communication with all patients, adhering to honesty, accuracy, and courteousness in all interactions.
· Professionalism and Experience: Upholding the highest standards of professionalism and experience in the delivery of services and treatments, prioritizing safety, discretion, and customer service.
I am thrilled to align with Botox Bar’s unwavering commitment to these values and to contribute my skills and expertise to uphold these principles in providing top-quality care to our patients.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
In addition to the essential training and knowledge required for success in this field, I believe that focus, passion, and perseverance are equally crucial. As a goal-oriented person, I find it beneficial to create a new list of objectives every month and determine how achieving them would contribute to my long-term goals. Setting clear and achievable goals is a great way to stay motivated and focused on your long-term aspirations. Although my journey may not always be easy, perseverance is key, and I thrive when feeling challenged. I have invested my time and finances in training, courses, conferences, and other resources to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge. To put my knowledge into practice consistently, I also work two jobs. I believe that feeling passionate about this field is a prerequisite for success. When you are passionate about what you do, your patients can sense it, and they will trust you. Finally, it’s important to never stop believing in yourself.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I love my career path! As a PA, having the freedom to switch specialties any time in your career without requiring additional schooling is a major advantage. I wake up each day thrilled to have chosen this profession, as it provides me with the opportunity to engage my creative side while simultaneously utilizing my clinical judgement. I am enthusiastic to witness my growth in the future, as I have only just begun. I am grateful for this journey!
