We recently connected with Shelby LocoMotive and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelby , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

So my name is Shelby Ford and I own a small brand by the name of LocoMotiveLLC sold via merch by Amazon. So when I was in elementary school, we use to stretch before gym class. We had 2 types of exercises, being locomotive and non-locomotive. Locomotive meant to move around while non-locomotive meant to stay in place and not travel. I started rapping when I was 14 along side my older brother Cody, who just happened to call himself “Cody Loc” at the time (Legend of Cody). I wanted to do everything he did and be just like him, a true inspiration and role model. So for a few years or so I was “Shelby Loc”. After some time we both stopped making music for a while busy taking care of life. It wasn’t till 2021 I started writing songs once again. This time around I was on a solo mission, excited but nervous to step up out of my older brothers shadows, and create my own legacy. “ShelbyLocoMotive” is more than just a name, it’s a lifestyle. If your team LocoMotive there’s only one thing you need to know, we REFUSE to settle! Till they day I die I’m going to make sure I keep evolving, growing, moving, vs sitting still, settling for less.

Hey everyone, it’s ShelbyLocoMotive here! For those who might not know me yet, I’m a hip-hop artist and entrepreneur based in Louisville, KY. Music has been a part of my life since an early age, thanks to my older brother who first ignited that passion in me. I fell in love with the poetry, the production, the raw emotions, and the powerful messages that hip-hop can convey. I never could stop making music since, hint the name “Locomotive”, because we do not settle; we are on GO!

In addition to my music career, I run a business called LocoMotiveLLC where I sell a diverse range of merchandise on Amazon. From trendy apparel to unique accessories, my goal is to offer products that resonate with my audience and reflect the vibrant culture I represent. One of the main problems I aim to solve for my clients and fans is the lack of genuine, heartfelt expression in today’s market. Whether it’s through my music or the products I offer, I strive to deliver authenticity and quality. What sets me apart is my dedication to keeping it real—there’s absolutely no cap in my rap. I put my heart and soul into everything I do because I know that tomorrow isn’t promised, and I want to make the most of every moment.

I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built. Louisville has been through a lot, with over 100 homicides each year for the past three years, making it the first city to face such a challenge. Despite this, we stay strong and united. My music and my brand are a testament to our resilience and our spirit.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Being able to connect, inspire, and motivate others. Fans coming up to me telling me how much they love my music lights me up inside. I also find listening to my finished songs rewarding as well.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Man i hear this question alot, all i can say is be real, be genuine, and most importantly, STAY CONSISTENT! Nowadays, its easier than its ever been with AI.
