Shelby, appreciate you joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
While I’m a healthcare worker during the day, content creation in my free time is my real passion. When I started my tiktok page, I had no expectations and no intention of having any viral videos. 17,000 may not seem like a lot in comparison to other creators, but if 17,000 people came up to me and told me they loved my videos I would probably cry. Going viral can be easy, but maintaining people’s attention can be tricky. Deciding to post my life online has truly helped me find my authenticity and people who are like me. Once I made the decision to be open online about my life, I started attracting the right people. I have made SO many incredible new friends just from posting silly videos and being myself. It truly did change my life in the sense of exiting my comfort zone. It’s only up from here!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I would describe myself as an energetic and exuberant person who truly just wants to make people smile. I wouldn’t say I have a specific technique or trick to the content I make, I just know my audience and try to make it relatable and entertaining for them. One thing I’m particularly proud of is becoming friends with some of my favorite content creators! It feels really nice that there’s people out there with hundreds of thousands of followers that I look up to and that enjoy my silly little videos. The first 3 years of me being on TikTok, I struggled to “brand” myself because I wanted to be marketable. But once I stopped worrying about how I was being perceived, my audience started growing again and I was able to enjoy creating and posting! It never feels like a chore, it’s become therapeutic to talk to people in the comments with similar minds to mine. I’m so grateful for my online community.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I would say the most rewarding part for me is just connecting with strangers. Whether they’re in my city or across the country, having a community online helps you not feel totally alone. Strangers can be very kind, and it’s opened my eyes to how I should treat other people as well.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My only true goal with being online is to create a positive environment not only for myself but for other people. I really hope people find my videos comforting and eager to watch more. Brand deals will always come and go but people are forever!
