Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shelby Anderson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Shelby, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
As both an esthetician and a phlebotomist, my approach goes beyond surface-level treatments. I prioritize education—not just for myself but for my clients—so they understand their skin and the science behind its health. In an industry driven by trends, I focus on personalized, results-driven care, recognizing that every skin type is unique and requires a tailored approach.
What truly sets me apart is my integration of phlebotomy and diagnostics into my practice. By partnering with True Health Labs and Quest Diagnostics, I can run diagnostic tests to uncover internal, underlying causes of skin conditions. This allows me to provide deeper, more effective solutions rather than temporary fixes.
I have always believed in carving my own path rather than following the crowd. To further elevate my expertise, I’ve returned to school to pursue a nursing degree, expanding my ability to diagnose, treat, and support my clients’ skin health from a more comprehensive medical standpoint. My goal is to bridge the gap between esthetics and science, offering a level of care that goes beyond traditional skincare.

Shelby, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey in the esthetics industry began in 2015 when I was 22 years old. I started out in cosmetics as a beauty advisor at Estée Lauder, where I discovered my passion for skincare and makeup. That passion led me to enroll in esthetics school, eager to deepen my knowledge and refine my skills.
After completing my esthetics program, I worked briefly at Massage Envy and Massage Luxe, but I quickly realized that I wanted more. I craved a deeper connection with my clients and the freedom to create customized treatments that truly made a difference. I returned to the beauty industry, working at Bare Escentuals while simultaneously building my own facial business—right from my living room! With persistence and dedication, my business continued to grow, and by 2018, I was able to transition fully into working for myself.
Today, I specialize in advanced skincare treatments, offering prescriptive facials, herbal peels, chemical peels, PRP microneedling, traditional microneedling, dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, and body cavitation. My expertise lies in treating acne, and I am deeply committed to restoring confidence in my clients through personalized care, education, and a hands-on approach. I believe in thinking outside the box and getting creative with solutions—this is what sets me apart in an industry full of trends. My goal is to ensure that every client knows they are in good hands and that we are in this journey together.
One of my proudest accomplishments right now is my upcoming book, set to release later this year. This book will dive deep into the truth behind acne—what really causes it and how it can be effectively managed. I am beyond excited to share this knowledge and continue empowering others with the tools they need to achieve healthy, radiant skin.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn early in this industry was the danger of comparing my journey to others. Everyone moves at their own pace for a reason, and my path is uniquely mine. Social media often presents an exaggerated, curated version of success, which can be misleading. I’ve learned to take pride in my work, trust my process, and focus on my own growth. Comparison is the thief of joy, and as a business owner, it can be detrimental to both confidence and creativity. Letting go of that mindset has allowed me to fully embrace my craft and stay true to my vision.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I chose this question because I want to be transparent with anyone who may be going through a difficult journey and feeling tested. Before my mother’s passing, I was her caregiver—a role that revealed to me just how strong, persistent, and determined I truly am. Balancing caregiving while trying to take care of myself, manage a business, and continue growing professionally was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced. But somehow, I made it through.
Even in my grief, I never gave up. There were countless moments when the emotional and mental weight felt unbearable, and I questioned if I could keep going. But my determination to succeed never wavered. Today, I feel like I’m living in an answered prayer, and I know God has even more in store for me.
What helped me push forward was the unwavering support of my clients—many of whom have become more like friends. They reminded me why I love what I do and gave me the strength to continue. I know my mother would want me to keep going, and that thought has been a driving force in my resilience. I truly believe that God doesn’t give us anything we can’t handle, and for that, I am forever grateful—not only for my business but for the opportunities and purpose it continues to bring into my life.
