We recently connected with Sheila Ziff and have shared our conversation below.
Sheila, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My company’s name was created over a decade ago when I first became serious about photography. I was really into nature photography and it was early spring while I was taking pictures of budding plants and flowers. I thought “offshoots” and related that word to photography in the way that pictures are a kind of offshoot or extension of the real thing. Going a little deeper lead me to thinking about my faith and how we are all (plants, animals, and people) “offshoots” from the Universal Source. Thus, Offshoots Photography was created. Later, I kept this name for my portrait photography business, and I currently use it for my photo editing business.

Sheila, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My love of all types of photography lead me into the business of photo editing. I have been editing photos for at least 12 years and and really enjoy the flexibility and independence of running this type of business. I mostly edit photos for other photographers who do portrait and wedding photography, for example. I save these professionals large amounts of time and energy that they can then focus on other aspects of their business or personal life. The biggest advantage for photographers to outsource their image editing tasks to me is to be able to book more photoshoots, thereby increasing their revenue stream tremendously. The investment for my services is highly affordable for both the occasional photographer and the busy one, and includes significant discounts for those who produces hundreds of images at a time such as wedding photographers do. I am proficient in many different photo editing softwares and I am always willing to work closely with clients to get the job done to their specific needs.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I just recently connected with a business mentor that provided me with some wonderful advice regarding some financial aspects of my business. I am extremely competent in the art of photo editing and continue to improve my skills through online resources. It is the “business” side of things, such as branding, pricing, and marketing, that I think a mentor resource earlier in my journey would have been helpful.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I started a portrait photography business in 2017 and within a few years realized that my preexisting health conditions would not allow me to continue being this type of photographer. I still wanted to stay in the industry in some way because of my absolute passion for photography. So, by 2021, I launched my photo editing business and found it to be an amazing fit for me at this point in my life. I am so thankful that I didn’t give up and found a way for myself to still be of service to others in the industry.
