We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sheena Lynne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sheena , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
When I launched my clothing line Kemet Clothing Company the need of resources and assistance that I needed wasn’t easily available. So a lot of mistakes and losses followed. While going though my own journey I realized a need this type of platform and with that I created Charming Creole Consulting
Sheena , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m originally from NEW ORLEANS but currently live in Atlanta. Atlanta is a huge melting pot but the dominance of female black owned business are fruitful. I struggled with finding my purpose but laughing my clothing line helped assist in showing me what lane I fit in. When creating your own business your naturally going to make mistakes and I just felt the need to create something to help alleviate those mistakes. Being a single mom maintaining the livelihood of your children naturally is an already difficult feat. I didn’t have investors or a big savings account to launch m clothing line. So I wanted to build something for people like myself. I feel if we come together and assist each other we can do some amazing things. I just want everyone that want to eat to be able to Eat
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I launched both of my companies the exact same time. Working a full time job and overtime was the only way I could fund my business. However 8 days after I launched my company I lost my job. Two weeks after that COVID shut down the world. Staying focused and knowing this was part of my story kept me going. This is honestly how I learned to maintain my business. See being a single mom taught me that their is more than one way to skin a cat. So I figured out ways to produce inventory and keep everything in house. I launched my brand with under 100 bucks my first year I made 64,000.00 just from my clothing line during a pandemic. I just kept telling my self “ keep going”
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
TRANSPARENCY!!! I’m honest to a fault sometimes and very blunt and direct. So when the questions started coming at me daily I helped as many as I could with just be honest and open in my mistakes and teaching on how not to repeat. People often ask “ why you giving all the information away for free” You have to understand what’s for me is for me PERIOD.
