We recently connected with Sheena Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sheena thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been making intentional candles for 17 years for friends and family as gifts. Around Christmas time of 2021, I was making candles for a friend’s Christmas gift and she spoke up about the power she felt from my candles. That was when I realized I could help others with my craft.
I had changed my name on social media to Witchy Yoga Girl a year prior to starting my business so when I needed a name the same friend said “you already have your business name” when asking her opinion.
The items in the store are either made by me, or a few friends, and the other items are items I have been using in my own witchy journeys over the years.
I knew Witchy Yoga Girl was a safe place before ever creating the business. Friends have told me in the past that our group was like “Sheena’s island of misfit toys.” We treat everyone at Witchy Yoga Girl as a friend and hope to create a safe place where people can go to talk, cry, laugh, and learn how to create themselves with our workshops.
Sheena, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In the past, I was not able to financially get all of the trendy new “Witchy” things so I had to learn how to create and make a lot of the items I use myself. I keep this same thing in mind when pricing items at our store.
We run multiple workshops a month which include a Vision Board, Candle Making, Tarot Reading, Psychic, and Spell Jar workshops. We run these workshops to teach others how they can create, do some self-care, and love the end product that they just created themselves.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I currently still work for Google as an Account Development Manager. My day job is a very technical and highly intense sales role that is a grind. I had a brain injury that affected my ability to do this role like I used to be able to which helped push me to use the creative side of my brain more and has helped elevate and push me into what I was meant to be doing.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My social media presence was created before Witchy Yoga Girl was a business. I struggle with Fibromyalgia and wanted to help others who might struggle with similar health issues. I wanted people to see the realness in my videos and give them a friend if they are struggling too. I needed to feel like I wasn’t alone and knew there were other people out there who felt the same.
