We were lucky to catch up with Sheddie Fleurenceau recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sheddie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Along side consistency, I believe one major key to being successful, is finding your why and making your goals as clear and specific as possible. I’ve learned that going after the money just won’t be enough if the love or passion isn’t there for something that I’m trying to do. Hence, why I dipped my feet in many things before deciding to settle into something I love doing. Success is practicing/researching for hours, prioritizing what needs to be done, learning how to minimize distractions, developing resilience in the face of obstacles and avoiding burnout to be able to take care of myself and business. I’ve developed these views due to the amount of time I spent unlearning the bad habits in order to reach where I am now in just a couple of months. I’m no where near to where I’m aiming to be but going through each of those phases in my journey have taught me that it truly takes blood, sweat and tears to be successful and it never ends when trying to expand your business.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am known as SHEFLXARTISTRY and I’ve been fully committed to my business for the past two years selling wigs, bundle extensions and hair accessories. I provide bonnets, scarves and little goodies for each of my clients in their hair box just to display a token of my love and appreciation for shopping with my hair collection! I am also a self taught colorist, servicing and specializing in natural hair care and color/styling. Washing is also included in all my services! I am most proud to see how quickly I have learned and attained so many new things that I didn’t know how to do before, which is why practice and focusing have become a big deal in my business and also my life. The main things that I want my current and future potential clients to know about my brand and I, is that it doesn’t stop here. There are times that trials and tribulations may come, but despite the delays, the goals have to be achieved. I go hard when it comes to my clients and business and words can’t describe how much more I plan to do with it.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Though we do have social media too strategize for growing online clientele, one of the most effective strategies on the outside have been networking and promoting. Some of my customers/clients don’t have any social media so business cards with all information on it have been helpful in growing business for me. Understanding my clients goals and maintaining excellent customer service each time has also been one of the most effective strategies for me.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I love to view myself as a butterfly, which symbolizes many things such as transition. I find myself always pivoting in everything that I do with my business, career and life because most times it’s necessary. To pivot is not always a bad thing, but it can be uncomfortable especially when we’re use to only what we know or think is best. I’ve had to pivot in my business by shifting my target audience, or changing what I thought was needed to instead, meeting customer needs better. A time of pivoting for me can look like this season of summer where I’m not selling as much wigs because my clients desire protective styles & doing more natural hair . But as fall approaches the wigs and silk presses will be back in style to which I pivot once again because those are the needs of my clients during that time. Pivoting have allowed me to view and understand what my clients like/dislike.
