We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shea Leary-Osgood. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shea below.
Shea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My company is called SLO Esthetics. Interestingly, the name came quite naturally to me since it’s based on my initials, Shea Leary-Osgood (SLO). However, what’s amusing is that I only realized these were my initials after getting married. I find it fitting for esthetics because it embodies the concept of taking things slowly and deliberately while embarking on a skincare journey together.
I strive to provide my clients with an experience that yields long-lasting results. Taking my time is the most important as I aim to understand my clients’ lifestyles and assist them in crafting a skincare routine tailored to their needs, whether it involves drug store purchases or high-end medical-grade products. Engaging in open and realistic conversations with my clients enables me to offer the most suitable recommendations and care. Therefore, SLO perfectly encapsulates my approach and style.
Shea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Upon initially relocating to Los Angeles, my aspiration was to pursue a career in the film and television industry. However, as time passed, my enthusiasm for that field dwindled, prompting a shift in career switch. While becoming an esthetician had always been a backup plan, it took a couple of years and the onset of a pandemic for me to make the leap. Following my graduation from school and obtaining my license, I was eager to embark on this new chapter.
After a brief stint at a thriving skincare establishment, I made the decision to forge my own path and establish my beauty spa, thus giving rise to SLO Esthetics.
At SLO Esthetics, our services are meticulously tailored to address various skin concerns, with a personalized facial experience offered to first-time clients. I’m passionate about integrating holistic approaches with conventional modalities to achieve optimal results for each individual. Despite my relatively short tenure in the industry, my love for skincare often spills into everyday conversations outside the treatment room.
One of my proudest achievements with this business is the serene and inviting atmosphere I’ve cultivated in my treatment room, bringing my vision to fruition.
I believe clients will appreciate the level of care and dedication they receive when entrusting me with their skincare needs. I make it a priority to thoroughly understand each client’s concerns and tailor my approach accordingly, striving to help them feel their best selves.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Following each client appointment, send a personalized message conveying appreciation for their support. Offer tailored suggestions for at-home skincare regimens or additional treatments to address their individual needs. This thoughtful gesture showcases a commitment to personalized care, nurturing the client-provider bond.
Maintain an active presence on popular social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Share captivating visuals, exclusive behind-the-scenes insights, and client testimonials. Interact with followers by promptly responding to comments, messages, and reviews, fostering meaningful engagement and connection.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
As a woman owning a small business, there are several resources that have greatly influenced my management and entrepreneurial thinking:
“Girl, Stop Apologizing: A Shame-Free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals” by Rachel Hollis: This empowering book encourages women to pursue their ambitions unapologetically and overcome self-doubt. It has motivated me to set bold goals for my business and take decisive action towards achieving them.
TED Talks featuring successful female entrepreneurs and leaders have been a source of inspiration and valuable insights. Talks such as “The Power of Vulnerability” by Brené Brown and “How Women Entrepreneurs Will Change the World” by Carrie Green have encouraged me to embrace authenticity, resilience, and innovation in my entrepreneurial journey.
Engaging with online communities of female entrepreneurs, such as Women Entrepreneurs Inc. or Female Founders Network, has provided support, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and learning from the journeys of other women in business has been invaluable for my growth as an entrepreneur.
By leveraging these resources, I have been able to cultivate a mindset of resilience, ambition, and empowerment in my journey as a female small business owner. These resources have equipped me with the knowledge, inspiration, and support needed to overcome challenges, pursue opportunities, and achieve success in entrepreneurship.
