We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful She DeLoach. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with She below.
She, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
How I learned what to do in dance was essentially watching others. In the beginning of my journey learning how to dance was simply watching and the later taking classes.I do wish I had the opportunity to take classes when I was youngest. Some skills that I believe are essential are creativity, loving the skin you’re in and having unstoppable drive to master your skills. For me the obstacle that stood in my way of learning was comparing myself to others and not believing I had every thing I needed inside of me .

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the dance industry by auditioning and putting myself out there. I started with finding classes and groups that were doing exactly what I wanted to do. Through those classes I was told of more opportunities leading me to even more opportunities to perform. This has lead me to create my own classes to teach others what I’ve learned in my journey. Helping people understand movement and learning their body and the language it speaks when we move. I’m most proud of the projects and performances I’ve gotten to be apart of and create myself.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would have known about grants earlier. This would have helped me not only continue my passion to preform but also be an artist that’s able to give back to the community without having to ask the community to pay for said classes.

Have you ever had to pivot?
While in L.A I was living my best dance life and unfortunately tore my achilles while dancing. Which led me to take a long hiatus away from dance, but while I was away from dancing, I was able to become more of a choreographer because I was not able to move. I was able to use the creative side of me to create movement without being able dance full out. It was definitely a really sad moment in my life but I was something that taught me a very valuable lesson when it comes to the care of your body.
