We recently connected with Shayron Hamilton and have shared our conversation below.
Shayron, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Going from an Idea to Execution is very big. As many people who know me know I am very social which means I am out often. People would always compliment me on my eyelashes, clothes or accessories whenever I was out as well of course asking me where I got certain items from. Me being the person I am I didn’t mind sharing the business I have got specific items from but then I took a second to think that every time I tell someone about where I bought a product from I am promoting someone else business when I could be promoting my own business. This idea came at the perfect time due to recently losing my granny and experiencing depression.
I began looking for vendors AGAIN as I did give up about a year or two prior to this. I told myself my granny would never be okay with me being a quitter and that gave me all the motivation I needed. I searched for a solid mink eyelash vendor that would exceed my standards. After about sampling out 5 more vendors I finally found the ONE. However lashes wasn’t enough for me so I picked my next favorite thing which was Sunglasses not to mention I had as a side hustle when I lived in Las Vegas so everything was literally coming together in my mind. Once I found my sunglass vendors I was ready to find my business name. It literally took me months to find the perfect name & it was honestly at the most random time when I least expected it. To my mind came Minks N’ Things. I then registered my business with the state and created my own website via shopify with my own domain Minksnthings.com . I promoted the launch for weeks as well as my family and friends which is truly a huge blessing. November 2nd, 2020 came and Minks N’ Things was officially born.

Shayron, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a 29 year old entrepreneur and content creator. I am a woman of many talents so I would also like to include that I am a cart stylist (virtual stylist) who also styles clients on weekly basis. My business Minks N’ Things is my baby and has opened many doors for me and has taken my creative mind to a complete different level. Minks N’ Things offers Minks eyelashes, sunglasses, purses and more. The problem I solve for my customers is I provide the trendiest up to date accessories at an affordable price. Shopping with us gives you the option to accessorize and give looks just as your favorite celebrity or influencer would without breaking the bank and I think that is also something that sets us apart from others. I am most proud that we have survived a pandemic and that Minks N’ Things is slowly reaching our 3 year anniversary. The thing I want my followers to know is that you do will always stay up to date with trendy fashion and as the owner I do not hide just behind the scenes I step into every role and I make sure that everyday I am learning how to provide better and be a better business owner for myself and my customers.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my social media audience hasn’t been the easiest thing. I honestly thought I would gain more followers (audience) faster however the beauty of it is that everyday you learn something new on how to grow your audience at least if you study it. I would say that reels & tik tok have help build my social media presence tremendously not only on Minks N’ Things but my content creator page as well. Consistency is the BIGGEST way I have built my audience on social media in my opinion. The more consistent I am the more my audience grows as well as the more my audience trust me which plays a big part.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for me thus far has been consistently being a vendor at local pop up shops in Los Angeles. Pop up shops give customers a convenient way to meet and shop with local vendors in person. I have been in over 20 pop up shops within these 2 years and it has helped me tremendously. Black on the Block and Black Market Flea have helped me grow tremendously with their dope events so shoutout to them as well.
