We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shayne Wells a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shayne, thanks for joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Throughout college, I had a hand full of curve balls thrown at me that required me to change course. Originally on the path to become a physical therapist, I had always wanted to be involved in either athletics or physical wellness (wanting to help other people), considering majority of my life consisted of playing soccer, to which I was lucky enough to play collegiately on an athletic scholarship.
During my undergrad career, I didn’t have the best academic counselor (it happens), so my academic plans changed from physical therapy to marketing. Once I had the digital world of marketing ahead of me, I gave it my all and achieved an associates, bachelors, and masters within related fields- and even started my own boutique marketing agency! I’m so grateful for the opportunities marketing has brought into my life, and it’ll always be something I love to do.
After achieving so much within my social media and marketing career, I always wanted to do more and had these “what’s next?” moments. As an advocate for all types of physical and talk therapy, and having great experiences of my own, I had this defining moment within my career of wanting to go deeper of helping people, which ultimately led to my current path of becoming a certified life coach and licensed therapist.
I’m proud to have always advocated for therapy, even to those who feel like they didn’t necessarily need it, as you never know what can come from it. As for myself, I’ve been lucky to have been, and continue to, work with a life coach and therapist of my own and after years of working together, she said something me I’ll never forget, “We need more people like you”. That moment changed everything for me, and have embarked on this journey of becoming a licensed therapist and look forward to the fulfilling journey ahead!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In addition to marketing, I am currently a certified life coach and able to offer professional, life coaching services for those seeking it! I received my certification through an ICF (International Coaching Federation) accredited program and excited to work with future clients. My services consist of helping those get to the next step in life, whatever that may be. I create a supportive partnership with my clients in creating a more fulfilling and successful life. Sessions are offered in-person and online!
I’m also a studying LMFT to become a licensed therapist where I’ll also be able to offer in-depth therapy sessions with potential clients within the topics of relationships, life transitions, mental health, trauma + more! I help people develop deeper self-exploration and cognitive tools for healing and improving their mental health. It may sound intimidating, but my therapy and life coaching sessions are purposeful, motivating, meaningful and healing. Having some life experiences of my own, I’m able to connect with my clients on a level of understanding where the feel heard, understood, and able to create the tools to heal and move forward to the next best thing in their life.
As my branding is still a work in progress, this journey and this work has been so fulfilling, and excited for what’s to come!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In a sense, a lesson I had to “unlearn” was the idea of being too old, or it being too late to start something new. Being in my 30’s, I thought I was “too old” or it was “too late” to get into another career. But after so much support from my friends, family, and even teachers throughout my schooling career, I realized you’re never too old and it’s never too late to do anything!
So, for anyone out there who is on the fence about something or afraid of taking the risk, my advice for you is- do it, I promise you won’t regret it. Start that business, continue your education, make that phone call, whatever it may be, as long as your heart is set on it, go for it!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I love the idea of resources and using them to the best of your ability! For me personally, podcasts and books have been such a huge resource throughout my whole career. I always indulged in topics that could help me grow both personally and professional, and learned so much through other people’s stories and business adventures. Some of my favorite podcasts include On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Call Her Daddy, The Skinny Confidential, and The Holistic Psychologist.
Resourceful books included Atomic Habits, The Four Agreements, Attached, Set Boundaries- Find Peace, and much more! These resourced have significantly impacted my management and entrepreneurial thinking and encourage everyone to utilize such resources that best fits their needs!
