Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shaylon Venney. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

ShaylonV., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

I knew that I wanted to pursue my music full time, when I was in high school. I experienced so many opportunities and meet so many people that inspired me to see the possibilities that were capable within music. Along with my continuous support from my family.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

ShaylonV is a Memphis TN -based singer-songwriter poised to bring creative energy to the music Industry of today. Using her vibrant voice and zealous creativity, she crafts inspiring and thought-provoking lyrics to explore heartfelt topics. Crafting authentic narratives that draw from her own life experiences, she deepens the listener’s understanding and connection to her music. Armed with her powerful voice, she has the ability to weave tales that combine even her own stories. Using lively instruments with her soulful lyrics, ShaylonV promises an uplifting auditory experience.

At an early age, ShaylonV knew she had a gift. Yet, feeling stuck in the middle her mind ran wild with creativity that no one knew. With not knowing how to illustrate those thoughts, her love for writing began first with a 6th grade class assignment which was over monorhyme poetry. What really stood out to Shaylon was the rhythm in which the words flowed seamlessly together it reminded her of the music she really enjoys listening to. Still living within her shell, she presented such talent to her parents who fell in love with her creative writing abilities. From there she transitioned her poetry into songs and raised eye browns around her dedication to writing music. That approval from her family, just pushed her forward in investing her time in perfecting her sound and pen skills.

From preforming in school talent shows, to after school musical programs. Being a part of those opportunities has built her confidence landing her remarkable experiences such as, in 2019 she was a part of the Levi’s Music Project x Justin Timberlake/ Stax Songwriting Cohort. Within the cohort she received training by artist such as Justin Timberlake and Timberland. Three years later she would be delightfully surprised to be requested, to be a part of another songwriting cohort. Working with again Justin Timberlake and Grammy Award winning Producer Danja.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

One of the most rewarding things about being an artist is my ability to connect with people on the very thing I love to do which is music. I’ve had the privilege to meet various artist and people similar to me, as well as people who are completely different than I am. Theses interactions help me create music that I feel is universal allowing my listeners to see themselves within the stories I tell in my music.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My Goal/Mission is to spread light in a world that mainly is consumed by darkness. I believe that music is one of the many ways to spread a positive message to people across the world. So, with the gifts that God has given me I desire to be of servitude to those who may feel lost, broken hearted, unsure, or even those who already reside in self-confidence. Overall, my drive is outside of self-gratification but to bring joy to other across the world.
