We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shayden Pacarro. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with shayden below.
Shayden, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Surfing has been my life, something that has always surrounded me and eventually grew into me. That being said, becoming a surf instructor came super naturally to me. It started as a way to fund myself as a professional surfer and help me live my dreams. I was having so much fun seeing the joy and happiness it brought others when we helped them feel and experience something thrilling for the first time. I would leave every surf lesson feeling like a better version of myself, knowing that I could share the thing (surfing) I love most and change a person’s life. I found myself to be pretty good at it, and then it also compensated me because I was noticing that it was making me a better surfer as well. This is when it hit me: an uncle of mine was passing away, and the last conversation we had was him saying, “As long as you become the best version of yourself, that’s all that matters. When you have a gift and talent like you do, you must share it to keep it forever.” His words had all of a sudden struck me, and I fully realized what he had meant. That’s when I embraced my mission as a surf instructor. This is when I met my partner Danielle Zirkelbach a hall-of-fame Master artist and business owner. After being together for some time she encouraged me to start my own business as a surf coach rather than working for others. I could run it how I want to and authenticate my brand. Danielle invested with me and helped me build my surf academy from the ground up. Now we have a fully functioning business endorsed by Hurley and ready to share the waves with whoever, whenever.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Shaydo P Surf Academy is a family-owned small bussiness surf school on the the north shore of Oahu. The North shore of Oahu is known to be the pinnacle of surfing or the 7-mile miracle. White sandy beaches up and down the coast with so many world-class waves in a short distance. It is a surfers paradise, offering up waves for all levels of surfers. The north shore is famous for its big and deadly surf but hosts some of the best small wave learning surf breaks in the world. Shayden, a Hawaiian local and expert surfer, offers tons of knowledge about the oceans and surf breaks. He will be able to forecast wave conditions and make sure students are safe and have the best-suited waves for their level.
During our surf lessons, we take great pride in educating about not just riding waves but currents, wind, sea life, and environmental awareness. Our respect for the land is very high because, as surfers, we depend on Mother Nature and her elements. We believe in doing good for our planet so the planet can continue taking care of us. Respect is everything to us, which also means surf etiquette. We ensure to teach our students proper surf etiquette in order to be a surfer who is a part of a community. Community in surfing is one of the greatest gifts that surfing has been able to give to me and my family. We dont want any of our surfers to be looked at as a “kook” we want to make sure our surfer are not only comfortable in the waves and currents but also amongst the people who we look foward to sharing waves with for the rest of our lives.
I am mostly proud of our slogan and meaning behind our surf school “CHANGING LIVES ONE WAVE AT A TIME”

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
we keep in touch with our clients by truly having them become a part of our family. Most of our clients end up being close friends and even brothers or sisters; This is the best thing about surfing; it is life-changing in so many ways!

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective way to grow my clients has been through recommendations. My business is fairly new to the online game, so it hasn’t quite picked up business through websites and ads. I think it’s cool to have recommendations because it is more of an authentic private experience for myself and the client.
