Shaybreion , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I believe a big part of success is trusting in yourself! We tend to second-guess ourselves in tough situations when it is in our control. Our anxiety starts to kick in and self-doubt starts to break down our confidence. To be successful, we have to learn to not only count on ourselves but to also count ourselves in that equation knowing we can make it happen with a little push and a little trust.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Crafting has always been my hobby since I was a child. I was a bit of a loner so, my playtime was mainly me coloring, drawing, and crafting. You know what they say, adulthood changes everything and that’s what it did to me. Once the Pandemic hit, I was home like everyone else looking for ways to keep myself motivated. I came across a few videos on tufting rugs and different ways to design them, but I decided to overlook them at first because I knew they were above my crafting skills. I didn’t trust myself, of course, especially since it’s been years since I attempted crafting. And plus at my age, why would I consider it? After coming across more videos, I decided to take an interest and after one year, and a few changes later, I am still enjoying what I do! Yes, I put my foot forward and trusted myself. What I enjoy about being the owner of SheTuftsNice, is creating more creative ways for people to put a stamp on their decor! At SheTuftsNice, I provide custom-quality rugs. What makes me proud about being in this business, is that I allowed my childhood hobby back into my life and I’m having fun again!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The first couple of months when we started the business were a bit of a challenge. This was a new craft, that at the time, wasn’t surfacing around much. Marketing and introducing something new was overwhelming. Thinking of designs that would interest someone was difficult and the money to fund this craft had me against the wall almost every night. At that time, we were losing more money than making it. So I took some time off and adjusted what I wanted to work with first. I thought about marketing and who I should reach, I’m still learning in that department but with some help from some amazing women, it became easier. I had to market myself by creating content, something I am still shy about. I changed my mindset and goal by not focusing on the sales but more on the brand.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
At one point I was working a full-time position, and it became stressful on my feet which prevented me from moving forward with them. I started applying more time to my craft and researching ways to invest in it. I have been going forward for a full year. My first milestone was getting my first order before I was fully confident. I overcame that fear and was able to get 5 orders within that week. I was able to complete my first big rug order and business logo order within 6 months of going full-time.
