We recently connected with Shay Segev and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shay , thanks for joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
This question brought me back to when I graduated from FAU. Do I want to be a professional and be generously compensated for my expertise? Having set hours, set days, set PTOs, and a pretty set future. Or on the contrary, no limits on work hours, sharing myself and time with my colleagues and employees, non-stop thoughts on my business, 365 days and nights. I chose to be challenged by the realities of business. Full of unexpected challenges, confronting everyday with a different view on life. Meeting special people that do the same as I do, building themselves a different reality. Obstacles became to be my fuel to overcome different issues, different points of view, different tasks, and most of all – different mentalities.
When Covid-19 hit, I said to myself “This is a big one, and a quite unique challenge that we will need to go through”. After 22 years in business, you would think that you saw it all. However, the reality that you generated from your own business comes and says “Sit tight for the next one to come, as it is not over, and will never be over. Just get refueled, and keep on going”. Covid-19 provided me with the opportunity to discover myself as a business owner, and as a company employee. On one hand to keep fighting, and in the other hand, do not leave anyone behind, as the employees are the foundation that protects and sustains the company from all the challenges out there.
One of the most beautiful, charming, and fascinating things about being a business owner is getting the opportunity to see your own skills merging with your faith and beliefs, breaking down any barriers that surround us once in a while. Developing the faith, yet adapting to every experience. Then creating a strong and successful path for a victorious future.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an innovator and entrepreneur, successfully founding and leading UHI Cosmetics since 2001, which is one of the world’s leading skincare manufacturer and distributor.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
We sell our products both on our online stores for each brand, as well as Amazon for some brands. Selling on our online stores gives us the opportunity to fully control our branding, which is extremely important for me.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Having a retail presence and influencer outreach has definitely helped build an audience on our social media pages. Our products also got into the hands of celebrities, who willingly posted themselves using the products and was a major boost to our followers and engagement.
